Where’s your local? If it’s Warrington I’ll take you. I love a trip to Ikea.

Have you thought of checking Amazon? They sell a lot of Ikea units, and their delivery is usually a lot cheaper too.

IKEA is fine for what you pay

Delivery charges for kallax are extortionate though - you'll pay at least £40 (I know because that's what I was quoted this week and I don't live far from the actual store)

b&q do a kallax alternative so do Argos

I'm just about to move house - I've just bought a heap of furniture, £15 delivery for a £260 order (they charge bizarre delivery fees to encourage people to actually go to the shop!) and it's due to arrive on Friday.

I ordered a new bed from them about 8 months ago and it arrived 3 days later, no issues.

If you have a local facebook page you could try asking whether anyone is going to Ikea and would like to undercut their delivery fees for you? We're further from Ikea, so we have occasional "I'm going to Ikea - anyone need anything" or "is anyone going to Ikea?".

Apparently taxis around here are funny about taking furniture (I know people that have had issues)

A man with a van would be £50 where I am

For the sake of 4 miles just book a large taxi (ring them so you can mention furniture), and have them meet you at the exit.

what about hiring a 'man with a van' ?

I did click and collect in a taxi, far cheaper then the delivery fee. Probably the same for you I would imagine. Bonus points for telling the taxi company what you're doing and then they might send the multi person taxi so it's easy to pop boxes in!

I got a delivery on the 1st and it was amazing. I moved house and had tons of furniture deliveries and the Ikea one was by far the best.

I ordered a high chair a couple of months ago as no IKEA anywhere near us.

Hard to get a slot but no issues once I did. Turned up a day early though.

I'd wait the month for the kallax op. It's so easy to put together and worth the wait.

An alternative would be to buy on Ebay. It'll cost more but you'll get it sooner. I've not done this , so can't advise on risk, but I've seen plenty of ikea furniture for sale on there.

Be warned about the Argo alternative to kallax, my dad ordered one after he couldn’t get another IKEA version last year. Said it came in million more pieces and unlike IKEA crap instructions

I’m going to take a look at those as an alternative muchtoocold thanks, I know Argos delivery is like £3 something! And they do same day I think

I ordered a large consignment of furniture including kallax units back in January and it arrived with no issues.

The delivery men were lovely and apologised for not being able to bring it indoors due to covid.

@muchtoocold

I haven't had any issues previously with IKEA deliveries but in lockdown couldn't get one without paying the earth. Got an alternative for Kallax from Argos which did the job so might be worth a look, searched for cubed storage or something like that.

I saw those as well, and they look great. Do the IKEA Kallax inserts/boxes fit in them?

I had a good experience. Ordered a unit online, received an email when it was ready. Picked it up from the warehouse. This was when we were still under the last lockdown. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy and painless it was!

Yes it’s £40 here as well if I want the bigger kallax so having to stick with the 4 unit and having to get 2 of them which works out more, when I would prefer the larger one but the 4 unit is £15 delivery and the 8 unit is £40 delivery Shock

Yes the cost is a bit eyebrow raising. £25 I think, for £200 patio furniture (light ones) and wooden tiles.

Report
freakyfridays · 18/05/2021 14:12

My only negative is how painful it is to order!
Things only show as "out of stock" at the end, not when you add them to your basket, so it's infuriating.

Too many items are out of stock for delivery, but fully stocked in store.

Apart from that, as long as you are happy to be stuck home for 12 hours (between 7 and 7 I believe), it's fine.

The delivery is fine. The cost is NOT. £40 for a £150 order. Absolute joke!

My experience is that it's worth checking back regularly for slots and availability of stock. I wanted to buy some patio furniture and it was saying out of stock and next delivery date two months away anyway. I checked back every day and a week later it was back in stock and next delivery date was only a few days later. Good luck!

@Happycat1212

I’ve just checked and the next delivery for me is a month! That is really long not sure I can wait that long 😕 my local store is 4 miles away but I don’t drive!

My local IKEA has a taxi delivery service. So you go in and buy what you need and then come back in a taxi. Once, we bought more than expected and got a taxi to bring the extra stuff that wouldn't fit in our car back. Driver even unloaded it.
