Surely I can't be the only person in the UK with flu?

Chills, sweating, hacking cough, banging headache for over a week now. Got through to GP on Friday as I thought I was dying and they said "flu - take Paracetamol."

Rang my mum for some sympathy and she said "but the Daily Mail says there have been no cases of flu because we're all wearing masks and sanitising our hands. You have been washing your hands, haven't you?"

Anyone else got the flu?

We’ve got something horrible here for nearly 2 weeks. 9 month old DD started with it -started just cold symptoms - runny nose, post nasal drip causing cough at night, moved on to temperature, hacking cough, both her eyes gunged up (technical term), coming up in hives. We took her for a Covid test which was negative.

We caught the ‘cold’ and have both been so ill too - headache, earache, sore throat, cough. Absolutely no energy. Hot and clammy. Negative Covid tests.

There’s definitely other things doing the rounds. We’re still social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands etc. I can only think she picked it up at the baby swim class we went to, although it’s all done in a very distanced way so not sure how.

@Diemme

I was under the impression there was pretty much no seasonal flu this year. It's not just the daily mail saying it, it was a massive news story. The DoH didnt detect a single case, assumed to be due to covid rules.

They also admitted that they hadn’t actually been testing people for flu in anything like the usual numbers, as all resource was taken up with Covid testing. So they have no real idea how much flu has been in circulation this winter.

@Greenmarmalade

Repeat the Covid test. Get a proper one, not the lateral flow one.

Why? Other viruses still exist.

I'm just sat listening to DD2 (2) tossing and turning in bed, she's ill for the 2nd time in 2 weeks, she's had 3 days in between. Last time she had an awful cough, runny nose, sky high temp, sore throat - negative Covid test but poorly for 9 days. This time she is sweating, high temp and what sounds like a sore throat. I'm hoping to god that a GP will actually see her tomorrow.

Hope you feel better soon!

SunbathingDragon: I'm no more irrational than the people who follow the news reports and social media and believe every word that is written / reported.
I despair for the mentality that seems to exists that believes everything and anything that is "negative" at the moment is all due to this COVID pandemic.
I always look at what is going on in the rest of the world and I, too, despair that the only news is about this SH*T - there are other things going on, but that is not reported!

Definitely not covid but I've had a hacking cough and felt awful , snotty weak abs tired for about 3 weeks ! I am super careful and still almost shielding but I guess it shows if you go out you can pick things up.
And by the way I know lots of people have been unwell since schools opened (may be coincidence )

Thank you for all the good wishes and Flowers to fellow sufferers.

OP: you do realise that ONLY illness all over the world at the moment is COVID? Not only the only illness but also the only cause of death, either directly or due to "related" symptons!

Grin that's the impression I got from the GP's receptionist!

OP: you do realise that ONLY illness all over the world at the moment is COVID? Not only the only illness but also the only cause of death, either directly or due to "related" symptons! The only solution is that we all run like mad to get vaccinated ASAP and boost the coffers of the pharma industry or we will all DIE immediatley!

You sound a little irrational here.

We had horrible colds in the autumn and covid PCR tests were negative.

Not had flu, but as others have said I’m sure some people are.

I had terrible flu a few years ago and couldn’t move - couldn’t even lift something off my bed onto the side table!

I also think we have all been getting less colds and bugs due to all the covid measures, so as soon as we get something our bodies are reacting more than usual. They do say the parents of primary children normally have more robust immune systems than non parents. I guess that isn’t true at the moment.

@HavelockVetinari

I don't think most of you understand that flu symptoms are a spectrum, as are cold symptoms. You can have extremely mild flu, but be utterly floored by a cold. There isn't some kind of hierarchy of viruses Grin

This is very true and typical cold and flu aren't even the only viruses to give the same type of symptoms.

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

More people are dying of flu than covid at the moment so no, not just you.

I was coming on to say the same. Although that isn't very reassuring for you OP!

Anyway get well soon!

There's definitely something nasty going round. Ds2 was so poorly last week and the week before with fever, relentless cough, runny nose, sore throat, muscles aches (he had to have 2 covid tests, both were negative) and I ended up having to call OOH and the nurse who called back said something nasty was making the rounds. He was home from school for over a week. A few other parents in my area have made a Facebook post recently asking if other children/adults are poorly as their children as very poorly with the same sort of symptoms as DS2 had. Not saying what you have isn't the flu OP, but whatever it is is nasty! Get better soon 💐

Hope you feel much better soon.

I just had a flu like bug, negative covid test (done by a nurse at a covid test site) so you’re not alone.

DS has a chesty cough, got it from his cousins who've all just had chest infections. Covid tests negative. There are definitely other illnesses going around.

I dare you to say that to my Mum Grin I googled and the Guardian is saying the same ...
