Have you found an alcoholic drink that leaves you hangover free?

I don’t really drink much anymore , really don’t like the hangover but I miss having a glass of something of a Friday or Saturday night to relax. What are your go to drinks , just for 1 or 2, which don’t leave you knowing you’ve drank it the next day?

Gin and tonic. Anything else and I can have a 2-3 day hangover if I have more than three drinks

Gin and soda water, with a squeeze and slice of fresh lime or grapefruit. Avoid tonic or orange juice, or any other sugary or artificially sweetened mixer.

Stick to 3 or 4 (rather than my preferred 13 or 14...though back in the '10s when it was all pub measures/nights out I was still perfectly capable of functioning after this the next day) and you'll be absolutely grand.

Yes, I agree, Becks Blue is not a pleasant drink!!

Tall glass filled with tonic water, lemon, ice and half a measure of gin.
I can have 2 of those early evening and not feel shite if I fancy a drink. I call it my “micro dosing”.

@JustFedUpOfThis

You need to treat tequila as a stand alone

Oh I stood alone. As I vomited myself into oblivion.

Got to admit that I moved to alcohol-free beers eg by Brewdog and can't really tell much difference. I just couldn't cope with how rubbish I felt in the mornings otherwise- definitely getting old!

Brew Dog is pretty good, but I had worse headaches from Becks Blue than ordinary alcoholic Becks.

Cocktails! Any kind (except premixed) as long as it's not cheap crappy spirits.

Tequila is the devil’s own juice and anyone who says otherwise is one of his minions trying to lure you to hell!

Vodka lemonade. Quite boring! Anything else leaves me feeling like I am near death the next day no matter how little I drink. I get a flavoured vodka and mix with a decent lemonade which means I can have 2 or 3 drinks and feel like a human when I wake up in the morning.

Baileys, proper chilled without ice.
And water alongside.

Crap watery lager. I'm Scottish so it's Tennents here, you can suck it down in quantity. Most refreshing.

Sorry that shouldn't be funny but Grin

Someone upthread recommended mixing with Red Bull. No...one of the worst mornings ever was after the night I discovered Jagerbombs. The caffeine means you can drink far more..

It's recommended to eat a banana and drink a pint of water before bed to lessen a hangover. I gave up after waking up every time thinking Why the fuck is there an uneaten banana and Christ I've knocked a pint of water all over my bedside table.

I’m far better on spirits than wine, beer or cider. I’ve started to enjoy the organic Prosecco from Aldi though, I don’t feel hungover the next day.

Vodka, soda and a dash of lime or cranberry - basically lots of water with the vodka - mind you I still feel hanging if I drink too many, mix it with shots, B52s, Cava or Brandy (yes that was my birthday)

Never mind 1 or 2; has anyone found an alcoholic drink that leaves you hangover free after 12?

itsasin77 · 06/05/2021 21:32

Bacardi or vodka with Diet Coke for me. I can have 3/4 doubles and literally have zero hangover.
One glass of wine and I start to immediately get a headache.

@Londonbred

I have to drink early and then stop, so I'm almost totally sober before I go to bed.

Yep, as I've got older I much prefer to go out late afternoon early evening, be home at a decent hour, get a good kip...usually right as rain the next day.

Spirits and I'm usually pretty okay. If I drink too much wine then I'm pretty bad.

G&T. Much as I love wine, I do suffer afterwards.

This thread just goes to show what an individual thing it is. I don’t drink any more, but gin gave me a headache after two G&Ts (before I’d even gone to bed) and a terrible hangover the next day, and tequila?! Urgh!! The worst hangovers I’ve ever had.

I could guzzle champagne without too much ill effect, and found vodka or white rum the least bad of the spirits.

It’s a lot more fun being teetotal though Grin.

Some of the hangover is caused by dehydration, so drinking lots of water or highly diluting the alcohol is helpful.
