So, here is an interesting pack of lies from Royal Mail.

I can 100% guarantee no one in this house cancelled the delivery or asked for it to be delayed.
Been in all day.

I have no redelivery date or any information other than this
Anyone had this? What's going on?
Thanks

@Ernieshere

I thought parcel deliveries had stopped on Saturdays now?

Sorry if its not an actual parcel!

I think they've stopped the Saturday service altogether for post and parcels, but it maybe just in our area.

The UK post office is make massive job cuts to try and keep the service viable. I feel very sorry how it's come to that, the Post Office is still a very valued service, I use it all the time ( I send letter, cards and parcels all over the place!)

@IAintentDead

I've not had this but did have a number of occasions when I got a note through to say they'd tried to deliver but there was no answer. This was when I was in and would definitely have heard.

One day I was close to the door and had heard the footsteps. I opened the door as he was carefully sliding a note through the door, without lifting the flap, so that it wouldn't make a noise. He was very embarrassed and admitted he had too many parcels that day so he didn't have mine with him.

It never happened again.

Oh yes. I'm familiar with this one. 🙄

Just to add, it happened to me before Christmas, not over COVID. Assume they cant cope in busy times and rather than hold up their hands they lie.

@Ernieshere it was letters that stopped on Saturdays for a bit to help clear the parcel backlog but its back to normal now, at least in the North West anyway.

Absolutely OP I don't think they should lie either. Maybe they just picked the option which lets you know you're not getting the parcel today while also not messing up their delivery metrics.

I got a text from Next today saying they're sorry but they can't deliver the parcel that I was expecting today. Good old honesty.

Massive volume of parcels (Christmas levels)
Lots of staff sickness
Staff not being allowed to share vans and also wanting to prevent overcrowding in the officr so doing split shifts

I get this. Doesn't excuse the fairytales about non delivery.

Yes. Always a different postie on Sat. (Midlands)

It is a parcel. Not large, just fabric

Some of the offices are really struggling at the moment because of covid...

So you always get a different postie on a Saturday? Just curious to know how shift patterns differ in different areas. I have a family member that works for RM.

@EnterNight

Ive had this. Basically its an RM con where they put that so they don't have to compensate the sender for not delivering on time.

I had them properly squirming as I submitted an FOI request to my local office asking who exactly had requested mail not be delivered to me. A very sheepish manager called and apologised explaining why they did it.

Wow! Cheeky sods! I totally believe this though.

@morethanafortnight

Perhaps it is either large or needs to be signed for - a lot of parcels we send out at work are to business addresses and nobody is there at the weekends, so stuff sent out on Fridays would be held for delivery on the following Monday.

Could that be it?

Well it is signed for but with CoVid I haven't been asked to sign for anything for months. Has that changed now?

@Oldraver

Ive had this exact message. It was for an item that was in the delivery office early Tuesday for delivery that day. Eventually got it Friday after three days of no deliveries.

I was annoyed at first as I couldn't understand the 'request not to deliver to this property'

It's RM speak for WE have decided not to deliver it today as we're maxed out. I just dont know why they cant say that rather than the mistique

Exactly. Why not tell the truth. Do they think we're stupid?
Thanks for that though. I guess I'll just have to wait.
Funny how I always get my bills in time eh?

Have you paid for it? Could the seller be waiting till funds transfer.?

I've had this, it was generic message that basically means you're not getting it today because of some issue their end, like lack of staff etc. They seem to just send this out so you know you're not getting it today, even though it's not really what's happened... Hmm

MistyGreenAndBlue · 27/06/2020 17:26

It's a signed for item but lately they haven't been asking for signatures and I have a safe place. This is usually ok but maybe the Saturday postie got in a flap Grin
