AIBU?

Aibu to think that kids in England will not be back in school before September?

I'm finding it increasingly hard to believe that kids will be back in the next six weeks. It just doesn't seem likely at this point. Am I off my head to feel this is unlikely?

Ttoot I don't think year 6 will be doing anything in preparation for high school. High schools have been given zero guidance for any year groups except 10 and 12. I wouldn't be holding any hope for a start to year 7 in Sept either, parents in the other year groups haven't received any information about start dates in September and schools dont have any guidance yet. I'm. Hoping they give priority to year 8 and above before the new year 7s as they wont havehad the benefit of a return this term.

And many schools that have opened up for the allocated years, have now had to close again due to teachers or children having corona virus symptoms or confirmed cases.

It's not "many" schools that have closed again because of confirmed cases. It's a bare smattering compared to the number of schools open in some form.

My niece is back tomorrow (Y6) but for mine in secondary I've heard nothing. I'm desperate for them to go back and they're bored but I think it's highly unlikely they'll go back even in September. I am actually worried they'll never go back.

Speaking to ds HOY and they’ve advised ds will likely not be going back to normal until January.

My daughter will be going back on the 15th June she’s in year 10. They’re being put into bubbles of 15 and given their own corridor with classrooms, toilet and sanitising stations. They will also have their own outside space. They will have to bring in a pack lunch no school meals will be served, no blazers or ties to be worn and they’ll be given new work books and stationary that will have to stay at school in clear zipped wallets. They’ll be temperature checked as they go in and will have to wash hands before entering an allocated entrance either the front or back of the school. There will be a one way system and one in one out of the toilet which will be kept clean at all times. They have to wear masks if using public transport but are being encouraged to walk or cycle. Tuesdays and Thursdays the school will be closed for deep clean and each section/corridor has their own cleaner and during each break they will be wiping tables down etc. They will arrive at school for 9.30 and finish at 1.30, 6th formers will be on the other side of the school and key worker children have a part of the school as well. They are only teaching key subjects for now so maths, English and science and are looking to introduce more later.

I’m happy for my daughter to attend just to keep in touch with her teachers and some of her peers.

So sorry to answer your question. If it’s anything like what my daughter is going back to I can’t see how they will be able to go back it’s not possible.

Our school isn't open beyond key worker and vulnerable kids

They won't get anymore in until social distancing is dropped or part time is implemented

And be prepared for part time school in September

DS2 at special school, we have been informed that he will be able to return “hopefully in the next academic year” but have not stated September. Having requested his risk assessment he is not being accepted back until the removal of all social distancing.

At the start of the pandemic, I said that this virus will change our lives forever and the world we live in. I said schools won’t be open for a very long time — but people called me every name under the sun. What are they saying now?🤔

Trust me, unless people are ready to send their children back to school, schools won’t reopen fully by 2021 - a vaccine will take years, and this will lead to a life in the future where we homeschool our children.

I've accepted that ds2 won't be back at school until September- he's year 7 and no mention has been made of his return to school this academic year.

But I believe they'll be back full time in September. My friend, whose daughter is starting year 7 in September at the same school, has had all the relevant term dates so it looks like the school, at least, is anticipating a normal return.

What will happen if parents refuse to send their children in until there’s a vaccine?🤔

I mean, there won’t be a vaccine for a year at least and it will be prioritised for other sectors

discussions are now taking place about delaying next year's exams to July or more likely using teacher assessment again

Praying for teacher assessment for dd2 and really hope they don't move to July. For a start private schools will be finished by end of June!

DD’s secondary school have stated on Friday that they will not be open as normal in September already. They haven't said what the plan is yet, other than Microsoft teams, which is a worry as DH is already working from home until the end of the year and we only have so much space, IT etc! I’m worried for her education I have to say. We have had no cases here in over 48hrs and no deaths for a week, so not a high risk area. I’m NHS and I’m working obviously so can’t homeschool her.

BigDramaShow · 07/06/2020 17:38

@ITonyah How will they do teacher assessment? What will it be based on? Surely, if they go back in September, the exams will take place as normal.

Report
ITonyah · 07/06/2020 17:42

I guess it will be based on whatever this year's was based on.

We have had a letter from secondary to say dd (year 7) won’t be in school this side of the summer holiday. I can’t see dc2&3 going back either but their teachers aren’t great anyway this year so I’m not in a rush.

My Y9 and Y4 DC won't be back in. Both schools have confirmed this and been honest about how they plan to proceed.

In fairness to them I prefer their candour - so many friends who are teachers are stressed beyond measure at trying to comply with perpetually-updated guidance and the pressure to have as many students back in before the summer holidays.

BigDramaShow · 07/06/2020 17:47

If there’s no second wave, I don’t see any reason why schools won’t reopen by September

Report
Properbobbins · 07/06/2020 17:50

Primary school in the NW - unless things change significantly we’ve been advised my Y4 will not go back til Sept and there is not enough space or staff to accommodate any Y1s currently. We’ve been advised to prepare for disruption til Nov at least.

Also confirmed is no term time wrap around provision and currently no holiday clubs over the summer. genuinely wondering how we’re going to cope with work etc longer term.

actually feel full time school for any year this side of Christmas is unlikely.

some years are already back full time (R, Y1 and Y6) in many schools.

As they have been split into small groups, and therefore require twice as many "teachers", I am not sure how it will work when ALL the year groups are back - you can't magic space.
I have written "teacher" because it's usually 1 teacher for 1 group, 3 TA or diner lady or any member of staff really for the other groups of the same class.
