And then compared it to the blm protests.

I am typically "over sesnitive" but there is not way this isn't racist is it?

I'm starting to fear friend shares these views but secretly.

Aibu or is that a racist pic?

It’s very racist

And then you get people who say “RaCiSm DoEsNt ExiSt” 🙄

Trust me when I say I've spent the last few days systemically removing people from my friends or twitter followers list.
I've told them exactly what I think of them too as to use a phrase I've seen in the protests, silence is violence
It's like a really handy service of removing fuckwits.

Perhaps he should have said Herd of Wildebeest.

how happy would you be in a group tore down Gandhis statue.

Criminal damage is illegal.

Perhaps those who went to the schools he funded should pay a fee to anti-slavery charities because they benefit. Or Bristolians knock down the buildings her paid for. Or the Cathedral.

Perhaps those involved might have better spent their time picketing the brothels where Bristol keeps her sex slaves?

Racist. No question .

And i don't challenge the other two as they've bad dementia, so not themselves anymore or able to discuss.

Racist yes but your friend isn't guilty by association. Three of my relatives are racist, mainly the really elderly ones as younger seem not so-it hasn't been 'passed down'. I challenge one of them (though sometimes get grief from aunt), I'd hate to be guilty by association.

@AddressLabel I think all three of those examples are equally reprehensible. I hadn't really thought about whether I would report the other two examples to someone's employer. I think I would do in any case where I thought someone could be at risk. I do believe racism should always be called out and reported, because there's a very high chance the person will be dealing with BAME customers or colleagues at some stage in work. If I were an employer, I would always want to know if I was employing someone who believes black people are animals.

Am sure once this thread has died a little the OP will be back stirring it up again, whilst telling us she "does have a life outside of MN" and has been "very busy with DCs"

Same MO as so many other threads lately

@Batshittery

You are right about the amount of awful posts Worra, yet If they are challenged, it's seen as troll hunting.

And if quietly reported they're more often than not left to stand.

I suppose it's possible HQ are short staffed though due to the pandemic.

Or maybe the whole thing really has become a lottery.

I work in a factory...we have sacked people for racist language and behaviour The 1st offence is met with a mandatory attendance on a race awareness course (unpaid whilst on course). Any proven allegation of racism after completing the course results in instant dismissal regardless of colour.

Given the amount of awful posts that have been allowed to stand on so many other threads at the moment, I think moderation has now become a lottery.

Agreed. I straight up don't believe anyone would need to ask if that is racist.

NearlyGranny · 07/06/2020 14:27

If your friend has called her DF out with the same openness as he has posted the image, she is not racist. If she hasn't, she either hasn't seen it or condones his racism. If she has tackled him privately, she is a coward.

Why not ask her whether she's seen it and what she has responded/proposes to respond to it? That will make everything clear.

Well I got deleted near the start of the thread for asking if the OP was serious. I asked a very mild question about her intelligence (I won't repeat it) and apparently it was a personal attack.

I don't normally care about getting deleted because 9 times out of 10 I deserve it but I was utterly confused and actually contacted MNHQ to clear it up (something I never do).

Given the amount of awful posts that have been allowed to stand on so many other threads at the moment, I think moderation has now become a lottery.

I have no idea what the OP's agenda is.

I really struggle to believe that anyone would need to ask if such a picture was racist. In which case, what else is the point of the thread?
The OP didn't ask about the friend. Merely commented that they feared the friend was also racist.

I hope you're not right Cadent and Batshittery :(

I'm starting to think that thread titles like this should be banned, and should contain a trigger warning instead. Black people have enough to deal with at the moment without seeing descriptions of racist jokes as they scroll through AIBU.

Batshittery · 07/06/2020 13:43

It's Bloody ridiculous

Cadent · 07/06/2020 13:42

I suspect you’re right @Batshittery

Report
Batshittery · 07/06/2020 13:41

The point was obviously to share the racist 'joke' while trying to look as though they had a question about it.

Report
Batshittery · 07/06/2020 13:39

I find it unbelievable that anyone would have to ask if this was racist, and I am even more incredulous as the OP didn't return to their thread.

Report
Cadent · 07/06/2020 13:39

So OP disappeared? What was the point of this thread, then? Hmm

@backseatcookers

But you think the latter is worth involving their employer over and not the former?

It's not a case of which is morally worse.

DV is abhorrent but unlikely to affect work performance, other than the perpetrator being an awful person - which they may or may not be at work. Please don't think I'm saying any DV is in any way acceptable, I'm saying from the business' perspective it is unlikely to affect their day to day work.

Racism on the other hand is very likely to affect work performance as the person holding racist views will treat colleagues, suppliers, clients and members of the public differently based on their race. So it affects the business and is therefore very relevant to their employer.

Surely you can see the difference *@addresslabel*?

Yes, I can see what you are trying to say, but many racists surely know they are racist, and therefore don’t “out” themselves at work. Many people have racist views and don’t express them aloud or act on these views at work. They are still racist though. Just like the ones that take part in dv behind closed doors are still abusers. Yet the abusers are allowed to keep their jobs? Their actions have consequences as well. Might not be on their performance, but certainly on others as they are likely to also be bullies at work.

Also, do you really think the only reason people might report this is to make a point or feel good about themselves?

Yes, some people might. Others might do it thinking they are “helping” but are just making things worse for other (innocent) people.
