I have ran out of things to do, DS (11) and I have been in all the local walks, I have sorted all cupboards/wardrobes/drawers. The garden has never looked so neat and tidy....Please give me ideas of what we can do.
DS has school work to do which keeps him busy for the morning, we need things that will fill the afternoons....Please help Grin

The Scouts website has a section called 'The Great Indoors' which has a guide for the ages the activity is suitable for and how long it takes (they aren't all indoor ideas but they are very good)

If he's an avid book reader, would you allow him to create a You tube channel doing book reviews? He doesn't have to be in the video just like a voiceover whilst showing the cover. Maybe a little research about the author first or something similar.

Does he enjoy coding, that would keep him busy for hours.
My ds who is 12 has decided he's going to learn how to touch type as he's so impressed with his uncles skills. I think he's following you tube channels. It's a useful skill as so much work is completed on computers nowadays.

Make a massive marble run out of toilet rolls and whatever is in your recycling bin. Down the stairs if you have stairs. Watch a few YouTube videos for inspiration, there are loads.

Cut a big circle out of a bin liner, tape strings to it at regular intervals around the edge, tie them all together and attach a small stone or similar. Chuck it out of an upstairs window = parachute.

Find a tiktok challenge he wants to do, there are loads of silly ones like trying to throw each other a teabag across the kitchen so it lands right in the mug.

Learn a trick. Skateboard, roller skates, football, basketball, breakdance, whatever medium appeals.

Thank you all, I think i'm going to try some of these....Hopefully DS will want to join in too. I like the idea of making a bird feeder and seeing what it attracts, DS will like the den making, he loves den's so we do that already. He isn't into arts and crafts, and I am finding it increasingly more difficult to get him motivated everyday to do something. Its so bloody hard. Fingers crossed some of these ideas will do the trick.

Learn a language.
Pick a craft and work on it. You can order materials and equipment online, and there are likely to be YouTube tutorials.

Get him to pick a recipe and cook it for your dinner. Mine used to love that! Doesn't need to be complicated, just something simple.

Take the den making further and sleep in it too, outside perhaps?

Find things on your walk - 8 things each (flowers, tree leaves, seeds) put them in a bag. when you get home swap bags and see who's first to name their 8 (looking up online or books). Could also take photos of birds etc with an iphone.

Could you come round to my house and sort my cupboards? I've only managed one. The garage could do with a going over as well.

Have you organized your freezer? Underneath the sink.

Well done! --so jealous-

Design and build a bird feeder that is squirrel proof. Then when the squirrels get into it, make modifications and defenses to improve it. Look up Mark Rober on You Tube. If you have an old phone, you can use it to film the action from a window in the house

Do you/your son have an instrument that you can learn to play? A guitar or keyboard? You could use the free trials on apps or you tube tutorials to learn to play.

You could do some language learning e.g. using Duo Lingo

Learn (or practice) playing chess (chesskid app?)

Use the night sky type apps to look at the constellations at night and then look up some of the mythology behind the constellations.

Virtual visits to some countries on YouTube (e.g. videos Drew Binsky, Nas Daily)

Some non screen based... baking, asking him to choose something to make for tea - shopping for it (or making the list if online etc) and cooking it. "life skills" make his own lunch/ change his bed and use the washing machine, peg out etc.

draw or paint.

Time him doing some running during your walk like timing him running round the park. See if he can improve his time over the weeks.

If appropriate (health permitting) you could look at couch to 5k together.
