AIBU to challenge AirBnB host?

I am meant to be travelling up north with my family at the end of August for a family event. My husband and I discussed it and as there is no guarantee that travelling over 300 miles to have a holiday will be allowed that we would cancel.

I contact the host and explained the situation and they have refused a full refund based on the fact that they tell me that we can travel and as it is a cottage we can socially distance. They also say that as things will be 'back to normal' in 3 months that I would have to pay the cancellation fee.

I am quite surprised as I was under the impression you can day trip to places but not travel to have a holiday? Or have I completely misinterpreted things?

My DH now says that we should wait as if there is a second spike and everything is locked down again then she will have to give us a full refund but I am reluctant.

I don't know what to do. I want to challenge her understanding of the guidance but then my DH doesn't want to upset her and be put on the 'bad guests' list before we have even stayed there.

If you had a holiday abroad booked for august atm you couldnt cancel it and get your money back. You would have to wait and know you definitely couldnt go. That is the case here I'm afraid. Its wait and see

Yeah you have to wait! It’s so far away! You don’t know what the situation will be like - you. Any expect everyone to just give refunds because you don’t want to go!

If you can’t go closer the time / situation is have same as it is now then you’ll get your refund

@ Idododoidadada no I’m not the host - I’m not renting a cottage.

My guest booked on March 15th so the extenuating circumstances due to COVID doesn’t apply. She just cancelled thinking she could get her money back which is not the case.

Normally I will refund if I relet, but I’m not with her because she has been so rude.

@muzzhoften there was a drop down and one of the options was forona virus. We just selected that. When we did it it was for check ins up to 14/6

Airbnb are updating the dates covered regularly, full refund regardless of the hosts cancellation policy

You can't travel at the moment but the way things are going I'd expect to be able to travel in the uk by August.
