Smear result - HPV positive

Just had the results of my smear test. HPV positive but they tested the cells and no changes. Have to go back in a year.

Anyone else had this? I’ve read online that “it’s a warning sign that cervical cancer may develop” but then says that many people have HPV and it goes away fine.

AIBU to feel a little bit unsettled by this, even though logically I know there’s nothing I can do for a year and rationally it’s probably going to be ok.

@danielle121212 I’ve never been tested for HPV before. My cells have always been normal. Even if HPV had been there for years and years remember 3 years ago your cells were normal. It would be really unusual for your cells to have gone from being normal to then abnormal to then cancer in the space of 3 years. Also remember that a nurse has looked at your cervix and didn’t see any growths on there 👍🏻

@totoro1234 okay thank you. We are in the same position then. I will try and stop obsessing over that now. Thank you and sorry for the bombardment 😊

@danielle121212 that’s absolutely fine! Here if you have any questions or would like some reassurance! I hope you’re able to enjoy the rest of your weekend 😀

So, following the HPV positive outcome, my smear was due again this April. But due to Covid19 it was postponed until goodness knows when. I was also due a scan due to abnormal bleeding, which has also been postponed.

Not heard anything about when things like this will start up again.

Hi op, I had hpv on my very first smear test.

I had to have a colposcopy (cells removed) it was uncomfortable but the nurses were lovely.
I had my smear test just before covid kicked off and it was negative, no hpv.
In most cases your body clears it within a certain time.
