AIBU?

To wish there were sedatives for babies šŸ˜“

Iā€™m so tired!!! My breast fed babies 4 months old and tosses and turns and wakes so frequently for food like every couple of hours but it could be 2 or just 1 hour. Sheā€™ll be in the deepest sleep then wake. Tried topping up with formula but that only worked the first time.

Sheā€™s feeding more at night than in the day and no idea how to get her to swap that.

Feeling so tired, I literally hate her at night :( love her so much but this part is so hard.

Please give me hope! Sheā€™ll be 5 months on the 28th.

You may get a rough ride in AIBU but it sounds like 4 month sleep regression. It was a really tough time with my eldest, just do what you can to get through it, whatever works. DH and I had to sleep in shifts at one point with eldest but read up in safe cosleeping too if thatā€™s a possibility for you.

Ugh I remember the sleep regression phase, my twins were out of sync due to having been in NICU for differing periods of time after they were born, DS experienced his and DD had hers about a week (2 if I was lucky!) after.

As quickly as they start they will eventually pass. My twins are now 18 months old and sleep through most nights and have done since they were about 10 months (not counting illnesses or teething periods of course). Iā€™m just praying (naively) that their sleep routine holds down when they hit the ā€œterrible twosā€ :ā€™) especially seeing as DC3 is due to be born any day now šŸ˜‚

Sending Flowers OP, soldier on, it will pass xx

Yanbu! My 10m old has been tossing and turning since 1130

My DD is 4 weeks old and sleeps around 60-90mins a time. DH and I are having to sleep in shifts otherwise there would be serious problems.
No helpful advice from me but I do sympathise with you. The lack of sleep is very difficult!

Another tired mummy here!!
Been listening to my my baby wiggling, coughing, tossing and turning all night. It keeps you on edge waiting for them to wake!
I used to love my bed so much.. now itā€™s a torture chamber and as I slip under the quilt at night- Iā€™m laying there awaiting the night from Hell šŸ˜ˆ

Sheā€™s next to me right now, been awake since 5 talking to herself while I pretend to be asleep šŸ‘
Sheā€™s 6 months x

Sadly itā€™s totally normal, especially at that age. It does get easier.

The more that you are able to accept that itā€™s normal and just a phase the easier it will be (although, obviously not easy at all!). I found everything about raising a new born baby to be so much more stressful and exhausting when I treated things as problems that I was trying to fix.

There used to be something called Medised sold in the same aisle as Calpol. Sadly discontinued by the time DD came along. I'm sure that there were problems with it for some people but it was effective for a poorly child.

Right there with you! Three month old DD asleep on me now after a night of 1/1.5 hourly wakeups. Everything had been going in the right direction but she's regressed.

The torture is real. Coffee and sympathy to you. I keep reminding myself that I've never met a 30 year old who can't sleep longer than two hours at a time so this does, presumably, end at some point

Could have written this post. DS is three months and wakes every two hours through the night for a feed.

Everything I have read suggests he isnā€™t actually hungry, but is using the breast to settle and get himself back to sleep when transitioning through sleep cycles. He wonā€™t take a bottle so all the feeding is on me and I donā€™t want to introduce a dummy as he will need weaned off of that eventually. You have my sympathies!

My Gran recommended putting a bit of brandy in her bottle šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø I didn't of course but she was like well that's what we used to do šŸ˜‚.

I hear ya sista.

My baby is nearly 4 months and he's a massive twat when it comes to sleep. Or lack thereof.

He wakes after 30 minutes, no matter what.
It's some kind of sleep cycle crap. He's not linking his together or something. It's bloody annoyed. Just sleep you tiny bastard.

We also have reflux to contend with.

It's a good thing he's so cute.

ICould have written this post. DS is three months and wakes every two hours through the night for a feed.*

This is my dream.
Waking every two hours would be absolute bliss for me.
Between 10pm and 6am DS wakes 8 times.
Don't even get me started on the bits between 7pm and 10pm!

Apparently I slept so badly that my parents gave me a sedative (I am 40). They then didn't sleep in a panic because they'd drugged the baby and I didn't sleep either (probably because they'd given me a much smaller dose than they should). 40 years later I'm still here and I did start sleeping through at some point I promise :o

Medised was wonderful and so effective for poorly or up all night teething babies.

Doctors used to prescribe Phenergen (sp?) but you wouldn't get that these days as the norm.

I dreaded nights too for a short while til DS1 turned the corner. Now we have to drag them out of bed. It will end. Xxx

My eldest was regularly on medised, his teething was the worst.

My mum regularly used phenergan on my brother. Especially when they planned to have a night out šŸ˜® which I slightly judge them for since she was a nurse and we had SIDS in the family and they were leaving him with us to look after. But let's not dwell šŸ˜‚

Yes medised was all the rage when 12yo ds was tiny but I think it had been banned by the time 9yo DD came along.

Report
BoobiesToTheRescue · 13/04/2019 07:37

Yes! My eldest is 12 as well. And it was banned by the time he was 3. At which point I'd stopped using it.

This was the thing I found hardest about having small babies.

But it is a phase and it will pass.

Youā€™re in the middle of it right now and itā€™s awful but hang on in there, it will pass Brew Flowers Brew

I hopped on to say that there is too, phergan. I work in pharm and we get at least one person (usually a grandparent) come in for it a week. We obviously can't sell it for that reason.

Another one saying Medised was wonderful. Got it for dd2 at 20 months.
Half a teaspoon and dd2 (who'd never slept more than 2 hours at a stretch) slept 12 hours. What's more after only 2 nights of taking it, she then reliably slept through most nights.

If she had two nights of waking, I'd give her another half teaspoon and she'd go back to sleeping through with it. I think in the end I used less than 1/4 of the bottle.

I can't help but think humans are poorly designed! wouldn't it be great if we were all born with an on-off switch on our backs - no more overtired tossing and turning at night for any of us, babies included!

Flowers for tired OP and all struggling with short and broken nights... it certainly WILL get better, but hopefully sooner than later!
