I think a close family member is likely to receive a lung cancer diagnosis this week.
She’s not had a biopsy yet, just a ct. Can diagnosis be made from this alone? And how long is it usually then until treatment begins? It’s come out of the blue really so everyone is feeling a bit.

Hi OP.
I was diagnosed with non small cell adenocarcinoma lung cancer in Dec 2017. I had surgery 4 weeks later in Jan 2018. It was an upper right lobectomy (the tumour was located in the top third of my lung) and removal of some lymph nodes. Luckily, there was no spread to the lymph nodes.
My follow up scans in Sept/Oct last year were clear.

I had initially had an X-ray, followed by a CT scan. They were pretty sure by then it was cancer but I had a bronchoscopy to confirm/stage the cancer.
I am currently well and don't need any further tests till Sept.

It's a terrible time and I send you good wishes Thanks

@Home77 the targeted therapy is like chemotherapy but for that specific genetic mutation.

Between biopsy and scan to treatment was quiet long in my case. Diagnosis was 13/11, can't recall the date of the biopsy, but the PET scan was 19/12 and I was told they could operate with a view to a cure on 22/12 (best Xmas present ever). The operation didn't happen until 28/1 as the vascular surgeon and the spine surgeon ( the tumour was pressing on my spine and they couldn't tell until they operated how close it was)had to be present.

So, although it all felt like an age to me, I guess it was as quick as they could make it
