Just found this post and thought I'd update

I finally saw a gp who said I was having side effects from my anti depressants. So I went cold turkey and stopped them.

Still got the same deja vu feelings but not as much.

5 weeks ago I had my first grand mal seizure, followed by 3 more in the following weeks.

So I have epilepsy. My neurologist says the deja vu feelings I had been having were probably auras. I may have even had seizures then as I don't remember them, I only know I've had the recent ones as I was asleep and woke my husband up.

I'm currently taking 1000mg of leveticeram (sp?) a day and am two weeks seizure free.

I also have seizures (non-epileptic) but have never associated my deja vu with it

Every few months I get it, never any nausea but some annoying confusion. Usually it's that I've dreamed the exact situation and then it happens a few weeks later 🤷‍♀️

My husband has epilepsy. He always knows a seizure is coming a couple of minutes beforehand. He will just say he feels weird and stop what he’s doing to go and lie down.

When I asked him what he meant by feeling weird, he said it’s like he gets a sense of doom, an intense feeling in his stomach and it feels like the world has slowed down around him. He also gets de ja vu before it happens.

I’m glad you’ve got an appointment. Good luck.

De ja vu is caused when your eyes and brain short circuit the routine to decode and process the view of the outside world, for example in the case of an emergency.
Usually it takes a fraction of a second for this process, but as part of the fight or flight reaction it happens quicker, followed by the processed version, hence the "seen it before" feeling.
If there's a regular occurrence, you should book to see a GP IMHO

Have an appointment Friday morning.

Hopefully it's just a side affect from my anti depressants

If I was having an epileptic seizure I should call 999 - well obviously 🙄

Waiting for urgent care to call me back and decide if I need to see a doctor

That's ridiculous treatment. If you have any trouble on Monday again please let us know. I know no one knows what it is yet but as epilepsy is a distinct possibility there are Epilepsy charity helplines who maybe able to give advice. Please let us know what they say on Monday.

Nope 😕

Rang them back and insisted I needed an appointment so I got put on the triage list for a call back. By 5 I called again to see what was going on and I wasn't on the list!

Told to call back Monday morning.

Sorry if this comes across alarmist but if it were me I'd push for a brain scan.

Did you get an appointment? I hope so.

Please do keep a diary in the meantime of when the symptoms appear and what you feel. And Please update us if you have time later. Good luck.

It’s usually a sign of epilepsy, I have the same thing plus dizziness. It’s called an aura. It may not be this, auras are common before headaches and migraines too. Deja vu is common in itself but with other symptoms it’s often neurological. I’d get it checked out personally.

Yes, please insist on speaking to a Doctor. They can call you back and explaining your concerns about temporal lobe epilepsy. Whatever it is it is definitely not a matter for the pharmacist. Good luck. Don't let them fob you off I know how hard it can be to be forceful but it's very much necessary.

Can't get an appointment at my gp surgery, told to go to the chemist and they can prescribe something instead

I'm out right now but will try again later and be more forceful

I used to get it a lot in my teens and 20s but i never get it now in my 40s. Weird!

This is actually normal - deja vu experiences reduce with age.

BohemianTragedy · 22/03/2019 08:41

I also have temporal lobe epilepsy and strongly suggest you see your GP soon!
It's exactly how I feel, strong sense of deja vu and sometimes feeling like I'm re-living a dream. Followed by abnormal bodily sensations, nausea, anxiety.
Hope you get some answers soon! X

Yep same as other posters. I do occasionally (about every 2 weeks atm) but it's seizures.
I have never been diagnosed with epilepsy (can't be confirmed) and they can't confirm what is causing it but it eases with b12 injections. When my b12 is low they are worse, so I would also advise getting your b12 level checked too.

Good luck ChelseaMamma. I'm glad that you're going to get one today. Whatever it is the sooner it's treated the better.

I have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and I'm also coming here to back up what LondonHuffyPuffy and JellyBeanScene said - Please do go and see your GP or Medical Practitioner as soon as you can to discuss this

Just to add that I'm really not trying to scare you, and it may be migraines or another cause but just to emphasise you really do need a Doctor's appointment ASAP. This can't wait. It's exactly how a relative's temporal lobe epilepsy began and it developed from there. She is fine now and seizure free but only with medication and after treatment and a lot of worry. If we'd been familiar with the symptoms we may have been able to get her started on medication sooner and gotten her epilepsy under control sooner.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 22/03/2019 07:56

I agree with @JellyBeanScene. I have epilepsy and before my seizures were controlled I had multiple occurrences of deja vu on a daily basis, followed by an odd rising sensation in my stomach- a bit like butterflies in the tummy but more intense and it was followed by nausea.

I am not saying you have epilepsy but this could be a symptom of a neurological condition which should be checked out. Hope you are ok, @chelseaMumma

Not very often - maybe three or four times a year. I think you should see your GP as that doesn't sound normal.
