Do anyone else's feet/joints hurt when on their period?

I'm 47 and still as regular as clockwork...sometimes, my period is not much bother but other times it causes me to have foot pain! And my knees and ankles also hurt.

SO debilitating. I hate it! Anyone else?

Just remembered when I w as in labour the pain in my knees was really bad. Why would that have been?

GrouchyKiwi · 21/03/2019 22:18

Yes. I'm hypermobile and progesterone loosens joints, so the week leading up to, and the week of, my period are horrible.

CheshireChat · 21/03/2019 22:22

It could also be that you have a lower tolerance for pain in general- normally I can tune out most painful stuff, even the lightest bump on my period is bloody agony

MissMooMoo · 21/03/2019 22:44

I always get this too. I have read it is becAuse of estrogen dropping right before your period.
I was expecting pregnancy to be awful but it was smooth sailing and I had a really easy time.

JamButtyLand · 21/03/2019 22:51

I have period pain in my left calf- it often panics me then I remember I have had it for 20 years
Hyper-mobile here too. Depo usually fixes my woes

Skypatrol · 21/03/2019 23:02

Yes.

My legs ache, my knees feel stuff, I groan when I stand up, as well as a million other symptoms. This month my right arm hurts.

This is on top of headaches, exhaustion, and yes I do mean exhaustion. Ibs flare ups, anxiety, clumsiness, forgetfulness, nausea, irritability, I could go on and on.

Why do our body's do this? Was it nature's intention that we should rest? There must be a purpose or Mother Nature was just playing a cruel joke. Almost half my life is shit because of periods.

PickAChew · 21/03/2019 23:09

Your ligaments get softer when you're premenstrual. I'm hypermobile, so subluxations galore and usually an almighty headache for me.

PickAChew · 21/03/2019 23:13

And yes, apart from my stretched pelvis, pregnancy was a huge relief and some old, unhealed, joint injuries finally settled back into place.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 21/03/2019 23:28

Hypermobile here too and joints get much worse around my period Sad

EBearhug · 21/03/2019 23:42

History of sprained ankles, and yes, joints ache when I get my period, which is due tomorrow. (Also turn 47 in a month and still regular.) Don't get the premenstrual swelled ankle's that I used to, though - they stopped with blood pressure pills (and also my BP is now in the normal range.)

HennyPennyHorror · 21/03/2019 23:43

I am also hypermobile! Lots of sprained ankles etc. I can still do a cartwheel so can't be too unfit!

Yes, my left knee / hip / ankle in particular!

GreenDragon75 · 21/03/2019 23:54

Javelin arse? Forgot who mentioned it but do you mean horrible pains going from you backside down your thigh? Yes to other aches too but I always get this - thought it was just me. I feel like my skink is aching too. Hard to describe but not very nice.

ozymandiusking · 21/03/2019 23:59

Perhaps it's to do with the retention of fluid which puts more pressure on joints, causing some of the aches and pains.

EBearhug · 22/03/2019 00:02

Javelin arse?

More formally known as proctalgia fugax, as many an MN thread on period symptoms will tell you.

GrimDamnFanjo · 22/03/2019 00:17

My left hip.,,

cheesenpickles · 22/03/2019 00:51

I get shoots pain and aches, kind of like growing pains down my leg bones.

Aldilogue · 22/03/2019 01:50

Yep sore feet. Grumpiest person on the planet and awful to the kids then feel guilty later. Headache. Earache. Sorest boobs, can even hug someone without winching. Pimples at 45!?!? Be happy when these periods finish. It’s messing with my head. 🤯🤯

Aldilogue · 22/03/2019 01:51

And javelin arse that stops you in your tracks. So weird.

Bibijayne · 22/03/2019 01:52

My knees get aches. But I think there's more fluid around them when I'm on.
