AIBU to tell DH I’ve decided not to buy cheese and biscuits this year

Because there is always so much food around at Christmas ( thanks to MiLs very generous Christmas and Boxing Day spreads which provide us with leftovers for days and we always end up stuffing ourselves) only to weaken going past all the lovely cheeses in the supermarket and end up having a shelf full of cheese in the fridge?

I wish I could help myself, I KNOW that we will all eat far too much over the Christmas period and at some point we will look at each other and agree we shouldn’t have bought the cheese and biscuits. I manage to survive on just cheddar the rest of the year so why do I feel an uncontrollable need to have at least five different cheeses in the fridge at a time when we also have the most food, cake and nibbles around?

No. Don't buy the cheese.. Not worth it to get fat. You'll only sufferater Christmas trying to lose the weight.

Because of this thread I've bought a fuckton of cheese today....I'm not sure it'll last until Christmas!

I'd be in the divorce courts if I refused cheese any time of the year but Christmas would be seen as especially cruel.

Everyone knows that Christmas is about celebrating Baby Cheeses.

In contrast, cheese is the ONLY thing I’ve bought for the Xmas table so far! A stinky white mold delight, and a smoked cheddar. Whatever else gets cooked or brought, I’m guaranteed to be thrilled!

I think you must have misunderstood, OP. Christmas is about Cheeses, not Jesus!

Get the cheese. Love the cheese. You know you want to.

I don't understand. Five types of cheese in the fridge isn't Christmas excess, it's more like a 'normal year round, supplies are looking a little low, need to think about going shopping' type of situation.

We currently have:

Cheddar
Red Leicester
Halloumi
Camembert
Wensleydale
Double Gloucester
Philadelphia
Mozarella
Fig and nut Boursin

Which is below average and will be topped up when I do the Christmas food shop next Monday, although there's currently only brie on the list, but will probably also get some more Wensleydale and something interesting as a treat from the counter.

Cheese keeps so not just for Christmas.Brie and boursan a must, water biscuits keep for ages and sometimes cheese and fresh crusty bread is an antidote to all that rich food.

I’ve come here from the 1950’s to berate you for even thinking about this, Op. How, as a wife, dare you even think about mistreating the man of the house in this way? The Master must have his cheese! I, myself, produced a trucke from the fridge for the Professor today and the festive, cheesy glint of approval in his eye swelled my womanly heart.

How do you eat the chutney if you have no cheese?

What is this too much cheese that you speak of? There's surely no such thing, it lasts for ages; long after you've had to have a fridge clear out of leftovers which have definitely seen better days, your cheese selection will still be perfect.

I'm allergic; even contact needs hospital attention, ingestion can kill me. It sucks for my DH and DC, they all love cheese - thankfully they love me more.

The whole thing can - and has - caused a few issues in the past when we're hosting (I've lost count of how many cheese based hostess gifts I've received).

There is never any cheese in this house, it's the one thing that is totally banned.
But WHY????

Report
XmasPostmanBos · 18/12/2018 20:25

dh wants camembert, I don't think anyone will like it but if I bake it and he likes it but doesn't eat it all, is that it done? one use only?

Yes it would not be the same. You could make some mini camembert parcels with filo or puff pastry.
