It looks like rat. Please tell me it isn't rat?
I've eaten many a strange thing in my day (I have a weird job that often requires me to) but feel like rat would be a new low.

For context, I'm in Russia and was served it by a non English speaking Housekeeper who I suspect doesn't like me much.

it's rat isn't it?

Its a bird, what looks like the tail is a neck, the 'forelegs' are just the legs. It cant be a rodent because there are no back legs (and they'd have the most meat Grin)

Did she say anything at all? And thing that sounded like krisa by any chance?

It's really small, easily would fit in the Palm of my hand so not likely a dick.

Oh so you've met my ex boyfriend?

I am sorry to tell you, I just googled "russian for rat" - here it is:

крыса

krysa

I can't get past whether or not it's a dick - some are quite small you know!

I change my vote to quail. Definitely a bird, rather than a rodent. Rats have narrower chests than hindquarters?

It can’t be badger - there’s no rice 😉

I’m thinking rabbit?

Quail or small game bird would have wings
It's not unusual to serve quail without the wings. They are so tiny that they are unlikely to be eaten.

This pic is quail.

Badger.

All I can think about right now is badger.

Russian DH reckons quail and is making approving noises, the weirdo.

I don't think it's a rodent. While the long thing does look like a tail, I can't see any sign of the other two legs, and there's a lot of meat around the "tail" - more like a breast than a rear end.

Roll it over. Let’s have some more pictures from other angles!

Quail or small game bird would have wings, like a chicken does. It does look distinctly rodent like to me. Are those bones poking out the end of each limb?

Intrigued here. What is the tail looking thing ( could it actually just be a neck?).

Report
Beetle76 · 17/11/2018 18:01

Squab? Or perhaps Rabbit?

Quail is a possibility. We have a lot of quail eggs.
But as PPs have said, I'm not brave enough to eat something I cant confidently identify.

Which is rude, and a waste Blush

Whatever it is, I’d pass. Cut it up and swish it about your plate a bit if you want it to look like you’ve eaten some of it though the danger of doing that is they may serve it to you again tomorrow if they think you liked it

Just eat the cabbage type stuff 🙈

CosmicCanary · 17/11/2018 17:55

It us a small bird.

The "tail" bit is a neck then the breast ending in 2 legs.
Have you never seen a chicken neck? It is longer than you think.
Its possibly a pigeon or some other game bird.
