AIBU?

AIBU to ask for rinsing?

Rinsing before putting stuff in the dishwasher that is. I’m raging at my man child who refuses to rinse stuff and I have just had to rewash most things from the “clean” dishwasher. His reply “I don’t see why I should have to”. Now- here’s the thing. Is rinsing needed or is my dishwasher shit?
Either way the washing up of dried on stuff sucks and asking me to wash up because the gloves don’t fit him is making me fume. Smoke coming out my ears cross.

It’s usually just on normal. I still harbour a bit of resentment that if it’s not washing but will after a quick swill that it isn’t too much to ask. I’m clearly still smarting from not being right Grin

I am a lazy cow & stack stuff on the side to load later/tomorrow

Because of that I always stick it all (except glasses) to soak in soapy water before loading. I know this is wasteful of water, please don't harangue me, but my dishwasher is very happy, & I only ever have to use the 30-min wash & everything comes out sparkling, so it suits me all round Smile

I read an arcticle the other day that says you shouldn’t rinse. Your dishwasher senses the dirtiness of the water and sets the programme/time accordingly.

I had acquaintance who rinsed everything before putting them in the dishwasher, by that time there was little point washing the items again.

Getting rid of large lumps of food I get, but this was too much.

Another shit dishwasher here, a Whirlpool slimline one. You have to rinse and even then half the time need to rewash! Things it definitely doesn't cope with are traces of potato, lentil soup or anything else fibre containing - ends up baked into the outside of everything, anything tomatoey, milled flaxseed or porridge. If we ever have boiled eggs or sweet corn or peppers no matter how careful I am eggshell, bits of corn or pepper seeds are guaranteed to sneak in and block the spray arms which are the devil's own job to unblock. Slimline are so expensive compared to regular ones, I wish I had realised how crap it would be!

YANBU. Little bits of food are a sod for the filters. But if it is just sauce or something then the pre-rinse on the dishwasher itself will sort it if you prefer to run the dishwasher later.

I have a Bosch. I tend to rinse everything and then use the shortest programme. My DH rinses nothing and uses a much longer programme! Both methods result in everything coming out clean.

Mine started doing this. I could have a glass in there that had only had cold water in it. It would come out with dried gunk on it. No matter that I had cleaned out the dishwasher, filled up rinse aid and salt. I never ever figured out why that happened but gave up on using it and just wash by hand.
Though it is just me here....

We never rinse. The whole idea of a dishwasher is that it washes the fucking dishes!

We never rinse, and about six months ago switched to Sainsbury’s Basics tablets because we were broke. They work far better than the Fairy ones we used to use, so even though we are no longer broke we’ve stuck with them.

What kind of bloke wears gloves vest to do the washing up 😂🤣. He’ll be after a pinky next 🤣😂. I cannot believe you fell for that one.

I rinse if it’s not going straight on.

My Aunty actually washes the dishes first. It’s a long and frankly dull story, so I won’t bore you, but she’s 90 & there’s no changing her mind on it.

What's the point of a dishwasher if you wash the stuff first?
I wish I had a dishwasher there's nowhere to put one in my kitchen. I certainly wouldn't be rinsing dishes first.

YABU to rinse (except porridge bowls) but your DH IBU to refuse to wash up without gloves. Does he think he will dissolve on contact with water?

My DM has a Bosch dishwasher that she claims doesn’t clean well enough to not rinse. I then found out she only ever uses the quick cycle. I don’t rinse anything, put it on a standard (eco) cycle on timer to finish just as I’m getting up in the morning and only ever have to re wash a couple of items if DH has loaded it up incorrectly.

But large rubber gloves and serve his food on dirty plates. He may see why he has to then.

I would have said just avoid mash, rinse the spinny arms holes etc but actually since I started putting the dishwasher tablets in the cutlery tray nothing sticks any more 😱. And I know this because DH doesn't believe in it hence every time he sets it going there is an issue, whereas fine if the rest of us do it.

I don't think you should have to rinse but he's being an arse if he refuses to rinse and leaves you to deal with the aftermath!

Another thing to check is if you have very big plates, they can stop the arms spinning. I had some plates that could only be put at the very edges on the bottom so 4 max per load.

We have a Bosch, and just scrape off large chunks. No need to rinse, and it rarely comes out dirty.

Make sure you've got enough rinse aid and salt, can make a big impact.

Smile question is, now you're in the wrong will you be apologising to DH? (And no doubt you would have waved this thread in his face had it gone the other way)

(Another non-riser here)

Oh and buy large rubber gloves for your DH.

Griefbacon · 12/06/2018 22:13

I’m glad I checked and will spring clean it forthwith and see if it starts working better. My loading technique is ok according to the video I watched so it must be dirty
