To think this is weird

Basically my mum sent a video to the family WhatsApp of them both in the bath. I just think that it's highly inappropriate for them to still be bathed together! I mean surely there's an age where it just becomes creepy? I wouldn't bathe my 8 month old with a sibling at that age. I might just be over reacting but it's just really creeped me out !

Hi op, genuine question, do you suffer with intrusive thoughts? They can sometimes be manifested in a fear of inappropriate sexual behaviour.

My kids and their cousins all bath together happily. Oldest being six. We occasionally take pics or videos of them playing. But to be fair they're all sat in bubbly water and there's nothing to be seen.

Sharing images on a closed WhatsApp group is not the same as posting on various social media sites. Totally different things. OP you have the issues and I’m now wondering if this is a totally fabricated anyway ! Drip Drip Drip

Sorry OP but I think the creepiness is all on your view of this. There's nothing creepy or inappropriate for siblings, especially under 10 sharing a bath. My own kids did when they were 10, 8 and 5 (girls and boy). Now the eldest is 11 she prefers her own for space but wouldn't think anything of bathing with her wee brother or sister if we asked.

The difference being imo is that a phot in a family album is a lot different to sharing said photo via social media

Whatsapp is a messenger program. Sending it to your family whatsapp group is the same as showing it to the family in an album.

Nothing weird at all about it. Weird that you perceive it so.

I don't think there's anything weird or creepy about it. But, different families have different boundaries around family nudity and they can vary widely. If you prefer that this doesn't happen again, try explaining your boundaries (without judgement) to your parents. Hopefully they will respect your wishes.

I let my kids do what they like, some days they want to play in the bath together and other days they go all modest and insist I lock the door so they others can't "peek at them". Nothing weird about it, they are children. However I probably wouldn't share photos or videos of it, they might find it embarrassing when they grow up or someone's phone might fall in the wrong hands... you can never be too safe these days, sadly.

Surely there's a photo floating around of all of us naked in the bath with an older sibling as children? I thought it was obligatory to have this embarrassing snap in the family album.
nope. All photos of me and siblings involve us wearing suitable clothes, and none of us in the bath.
MIL also has no photos of DH in the bath.

My daughter is nearly 7 and her brother nearly 4. They always have a bath together. Quite happy with our 'weird' arrangement thanks. Hmm

Op, you asked a question. Almost the whole thread is telling you that there is nothing wrong. Sometimes it's not the others in the world but it is you yourself who is different. That's fine, happens to all of us in all kinds of different situations but you should have the intelligence tobelieve that the problem sometimes is yourself.

I often think that Mumsnet exists in a parallel universe to the one I live in. This thread proves that. What the actual fuck?!

I have a video of DN in the bath on my phone that DB sent via family WhatsApp group. It's the loveliest, most innocent video in the world. She is having a blast. Obviously I wouldn't share it with people outside the family but I see nothing different in itcompared to the millions of child in the bath photos that most families have and pull out when a new DP comes to visit
My DM, DF and I have all been involved in DNs bath time, there is nothing strange about it.
You clearly have issues with this but it is you that is unusual not your DM. You are letting your history cloud your judgement and you need to be careful to not pass on those abnormal views to your DC.
And please don't you anxiety as an excuse for poor behaviour. It's really not on (and that is coming from someone who also has anxiety.)

My nephews are 7 and 5... there was a mix up with their hotel last time they visited so they jumped in the bath with my 18 month old. They all had a great time! Perfectly innocent! I find it bizarre that you think children sharing a bath is odd..

I hate it when the innocence of children is ignored.

I'm actually speechless at this.
You think your 8yo DS might accidentally grab you neice? Where? I assume you mean he might accidentally grab her vulva? What a wierd thing to think!
You need help. Seriously

The only thing that is wrong with the scenario is your mum videoing the and sending the video on. that makes me uneasy.

I mean, 'my two kids bathe together' is hardly titillating material, is it? It's just a simple statement of fact. I think expecting there to be some grubby old man getting his rocks off because someone said their children share a bath is a bit of a stretch. It's not exactly the same as sharing intimate details or photos, and actually I think perpetuating this idea that you can't talk about things in a very brief and non-detailed way because there are bad men out there is part of the thinking that leads to bizarre threads like this in the first place. Just use common sense.
