Confused! I Want enough for 5 for dinner then sandwiches the next day and a curry.
Waitrose and M n S differ on weight to portion size and my head is spinning!
Any advice please?

Think my butcher said a lb per adult.

Ah, so if I want lots of sandwiches and a little curry I need to size up to 4kg. Looks like it's Waitrose then! Thank you

We are getting a 4.5 kg crown. I expect this to feed 5 adults and 5 children with enough left for a couple of sandwiches the next day.

We usually get 3kg for 4 adults and 2 small kids. Big portion on the day and then enough for mum and dad to take home for sandwiches. Def not enough for a curry as well - but we do have big appetites!

Yes M n S reckon a 3 kilo feeds 10 -12!
But if I get that one hopefully will do 5 plus sandwiches.

IME butchers do the opposite. Always want to sell you FAR more than you need. That's one reason I really don't like going to the butchers - I like to be able to 'see' a joint, and then judge Smile

M&S always over-estimate how many their crowns feed. They allow for very small portions. I'd look at the number I want to feed then go up by two sizes, especially if you want sandwiches.

Does this help. it shows number of people and the weight of crown.

So for 4 - 6 people you would need 3 kilo.

Sadly my butcher isn't selling crowns - only whole turkeys or boneless joints. I'm getting the beef and gammon from them but going supermarket for the crown on the bone because that's what I would like.
