Breastfeeding my nine month old. Originally had a number of issues (latch problems and allergies) but these are sorted now and it's easy and convenient despite having had to give up a couple of foods. Just in the last few days have had the following comments:

'Why don't you wean him for Xmas, no need to be a martyr, then you can eat what you want'- err no, it would be a total faff to get him accepting formula for a matter of months then wean to an alternative milk after a year, then try to introduce cow's milk if he can tolerate it.

'Breastfeeding past 6 months is just for the mother'- oh really? Why don't you tell him that?!

'What really annoys me is women who don't try to breastfeed, it's just lazy'- you are an arse! Just because we both breastfeed does not mean I'm in your little formula hating gang, nobber.

Why can't people just mind their own business!!?

Good, Blue.

I think being polite is a bit overrated.

I am probably just getting old and prickly. I like it

PickleRick there’s no reason you can’t have a drink if you want one whilst breastfeeding.

From the NHS website:

There's some evidence that regularly drinking more than two units of alcohol a day while breastfeeding may affect your baby's development. But an occasional drink is unlikely to harm your breastfed baby. It's recommended that breastfeeding mothers have no more than one or two units of alcohol once or twice a week.

I had a special look for these idiots. It conveyed "why the fuck do you think my boobs have got anything to do with your sorry arse?" perfectly.

What I hate most is the well meaning "You gave to wean him so that you can sleep."
No shit childless person, of course I never thought of sonething so obvious. Weaning is so easy after all right, you just both cry and go through agony for a couple of weeks, no biggie

Allthetuppences I'm in the same position. Thought I'd cracked it and weaned him but then he had the most gigantic tantrum at 4am one morning and I had to go back to breastfeeding again. No-one knows I'm still doing it apart from my partner and my mum, cause he only feeds at nap and bed time now. The comments and looks I got when people asked me if I was still breastfeeding were crazy. I just started lying. The hand constantly down my top is really irritating though.

Op I think one of the most irritating things about motherhood is having to nodd and smile at strangers who give you their unsolicited crazy opinions.

I breastfed for 15 months and never got negative comments so it's not everywhere.

Ds had a dairy allergy and I breastfed him until he was over 2 - so you have my sympathies and recommendation for Starbucks coconut milk caramel lattes!

I started just telling people that they could take charge of the weaning process if they wanted. I said I would give them some prescription, non-dairy formula (which ds wouldn't touch) and a bottle (which ds couldn't drink from) and leave them for the weekend. Funnily enough they sodded off...

We used alternative milk in cooking but he didn't drink it. We just reintroduced cow's milk when he was 2 - fortunately successfully!

I fed my dd till she was 2.5, and my son to he was 1, when he rejected it.
Nobody ever said a word to me about it.
I must have a " fuck right off " resting face. Practice in the mirror op, you can do it!

Yes! This!

I have no intentions of judging anyone else's parenting choices unless is downright negligent.

I misinterpreted the title and wondered who on earth the boob police were. Like some government function who marched around saying 'no, your left one doesn't look up to scratch. Cut it off NOOOOW for being offensive under the laws of boob crimes'.

But yeah OP, people should mind their business.

Just for the mother?? My doctor told me in no uncertain terms that baby needs breast milk or formula the first 12 months of life. What ignorant shitheads. I'm sorry, how are they thinking you selfishly get a kick out of being bit, pinched, dealing with clogged ducts and pumping, etc ? I mean I love feeding my babies but it's certainly not just for my own entertainment Confused

I'm personally sick of dealing with the disgusted comments while I pump at work, and the strange sexualized comments.

God - there are so many ignorant and nosey people out there! Well done for getting past those first bumps and good for you for going for so long :) Feel free to be rude right back to them

Kraggle - I know but I just get the guilts. Logically I know it's probably totally fine but we cosleep as well, so I'd just worry too much about falling asleep too heavily. Happy to wait till the last one is off the boob! Next Christmas probably 😂

People are so weird. Why don’t they just keep their opinions to themselves?!

Just work away, suit yourself and never worry about the dickheads.
