AIBU?

WIBU and stupid to attempt to roast sizzle steaks rather than sizzle them!

They usually end up quite tough, so thought roasting might be better?

I put a tablespoon of water in and oiled the steaks and put salt and pepper on top. I've cut up an onion and stuck that in and some par-boiled potatoes on top. God only knows what sort of grizzle I'll end up with!

The little thin ones, we get those.

You have to be picky about brand as some are tough. Tenderise - if you don't have a meat mallet just stick them on a wooden chopping board and punch at them with your fist/knuckles! Both sides. Sprinkle some salt and grind black pepper and rub this in - both sides.

Then fry for literally about a minute or so each side, two minutes if you must have them well done. I like to fry some onions and mushrooms in the pan first so the oil is already hot. They will have spread out when you punched them but they'll shrivel up when cooking so make sure you have 2-3 each otherwise you'll be hungry. Or serve in a sandwich.

I know you've roasted them now - but for another time!

Well I'm an hour in and there is a lot of liquid in the roasting tin so I've taken the tinfoil off to brown potatoes etc. Going to leave it roasting until 7.30. I will update upon tasting.

MrsTerryPratchett
I don't like rare or medium rare. I like well done.
Well done = tough. There's no helping you grin

Sorry, you may not be able to cook a still juicy and tender well done steak but I can. Grin

I use butter and oil and seal both sides of a sirloin steak on high. Then it goes to low heat until just cooked through with the occasional baste and then rested for a few minutes.

I personally wouldn't put minute steaks in the oven, they cook so fast that I would flash fry them or you are in danger of getting shoe leather instead of steak.

Sizzle isn't a type of steak. Are they thin, like minute steaks? They are often used in steak sandwiches.

But yes, of course you get tough steak when you cook it well done.

I have had gorgeous well done steak! Just not any cooked by me. Grin

Yes they are thin like minute steaks.

Minute steaks are called that because they are cooked in a minute. Not hours in the oven!

6 minutes until I taste my abomination of culinary expertise.

We get these, and really like them. I think it depends how good the meat is at the time. Some have come out lovely, some slightly tougher. Cooking them quicker seems to be better. The instructions do say you can't grill them so I would assume they can't be oven cooked too.

Well they were bloody gorgeous! They were dry on the top but I think if I had basted them they would have been fine. Perfectly tender, melt-in-your-mouth. Very impressed and stuffed. Thanks for the advice.
Next time I think I'll baste them at the hour mark. Honestly, they were lovely and tender. Thanks again everyone and Alexander.

Excellent experimenting there OP. I might give this a try next time I have steak.

Worked for a cheap cut anyway. I doubt you'd need to roast a good steak.

I always have cheap steak unless it's my birthday

GLad they were nice. Sorry it was dd's birthday tonight so I wasn't online much.

I personally don't like fried steaks very much hence why I oven cook most things. I do baste them then dh has the meat juice poured on top.

And oddly enough I find LIDL ones cook nicest. Asda can be a bit tough.

These were good old Morrisons. I will definitely baste the next time and may have discovered why my roast beef ends up like leather. I always had the temperature too high.
