AIBU?

- men coming on MN?

Now I have no problem with men coming on here and declaring that they are men but seeking a female perspective on something. But there seem to be men who lurk and men who post pretending to be women on here.

I've read a few posts recently where there have been quite a lot of misogynistic comments (not saying women can't be like that) and some of those posters are clearly men. Mostly posts about how how women and girls are subject to sexually inappropriate or manipulative behaviour by males.

Why are men coming on here and doing this? It's a public forum, I get that, but it would never cross my mind to go on a DadsNet or equivalent forum pretending to be a man just to slate men and their particular experiences.

Is it just me who finds this odd and creepy?

I cannot get into any other online game. I have been playing neopets since I was like 13 years old. I feel so ridiculous still being pretty addicted to it now but it seems most of the members are about my age and play for nostalgic reasons. I was pretty happy to find out the average age seems to be about 25-27 as I did think for a long time that I was really weird and playing with teens for hours a day Blush

Theres a distinct influx of men at moment with misogynist views (women must please their men even if not in mood etc). Has anyone else noticed? Wonder where they are coming from.

You don't know they're men though.

I often think a lot of them are female trolls/PBPs because they know the boards inside out and exactly which buttons to press.

For example, most PBPs will start threads about using disabled toilets/BF versus FF/Parent and child parking spaces/kids with SN doing 'wrong' to their NT kids etc...etc...

It's all attention seeking shit to get the highest numbers of posts before MNHQ ban them yet again.

So there's no reason why the same attention seeking PBPs wouldn't pretend to by a misogynistic man.

WankingMonkey Alas, it's been many years since I could access my old account. Check out Kingdom of Loathing though if you haven't, that's pretty entertaining. I've seen a KoL-themed MN username recently, that was fun!

Reddit? 4chan? Could be anywhere with young-ish men with too much time on their hands, really.

I still play neopets Blush

If anyone has an old account with decent items on it, please send me them lol

Neopets was launched in '99. Now I feel old.

I had email and the internet when I started my Post-grad from 1995.
I still have a truly ancient (think fossil level) personal email address.

There was a way to get on bulleten boards back on the ZX spectrum. Imagine being able to load up a page over a modem and bringing up a place which has posts from other people..... On pages which look like teletext.

I had a company that started in '98. We used to say to each other 'have you checked the email this week?' Grin

They had the internet in '99?

Since somewhere in the 80s, though there wasn't much content - allowed for email, a few discussion forums and Mornington Crescent. I used a US-based parenting board a bit in early 99.

I would imagine when they started MN they didn't think men would want to join. But you would have to ask them that. Not sure about a Dad-who was that then?

Yes, it dead because nobody posts on it. Confused It's too hard to find. It could be a thriving board.

It's not sidelining to have a specific space for Dads/Men to chat to other Dads/Men. Confused

Why do men not want to use Dadsnet

Its absolutely dead. Someone probably asked for it thinking there would be more traffic but I don't really see why men should be sidelined to one tiny area of a large forum tbh.

I get that this site started off as a by mothers for mothers type thing but it has evolved so much.

So if all the advice is listened to...

Men have to state they are men when they post, but do it without stating they are men.

Easy.

Report
RebelRogue · 16/04/2017 14:43

Since there was a demand that every male specifically states they are one when they post, would there be any way for them to do that without someone reading it as "I'm a man therefore my opinion is more important"?

I have to say that any OP starting 'Hi ladies' makes me Hmm.
