To think maybe I should ask for a raise?

I started a new job a few weeks ago. It's a start up company so I'm only on MW and zero hour contract for the time being. Generally it's been really good though and all the other staff are lovely.

There are 2 people in my 'department', me and one other guy who is my immediate boss. He has just told us he is leaving so the assumption seems to be that I will be taking over running the department (although no one has explicitly said this). I am the only one with the experience and qualifications to do so and I know from speaking to the management that they won't be replacing him with a new staff member.

Wibu to ask for a higher rate of pay considering that I'm not going to be doing a different and more different job than I was hired to do? I'm just unsure if I should bring it up or wait for them to offer as I don't want to look grabby!

I don't think they are planning on interviewing me for the position, I think the expectation is just that I will automatically take over and do the work he was doing if you see what I mean.

No idea at this point if they are going to offer me a higher rate of pay but I suspect they won't unless I bring it up - that way they get the position filled cheaper!

There are lots of sites like.Glassdoor that you can use to research what your boss is being paid (or you can look at similar positions in other companies)

Then when you are approached about taking over the role, you have all the necessary information to hand to know what rate to start negotiations at.

Also helps to make a list of your value add to the company if they challenge you on the rate you ask for so you can debate back and get the rate you deserve.

Ask if they are going to be interviewing for his job because you would like to apply.

I think you should wait and see IF your job changes as a result of this person leaving. If it does then ask for a pay rise

Hmmm, if you are going to have more responsibility then def the pay needs to increase too. That's not grabby and only shows self respect.
