To be unable to sleep without the sound of rain?

I implore everyone here to not go down the path I have - leaving a one hour audio clip of heavy rain while you sleep! Seriously, it is incredibly, incredibly addictive. You get to a point that you can't sleep without it.

It's DH's fault. He absolutely loves sleeping when heavy rain is falling - to the point he downloaded a one hour audio clip from YouTube of heavy rain falling. He then put it on his phone and when he went to bed, he would put earphones in his ears and fall to sleep like a baby. I always used to mock him for it, but one afternoon I was feeling pretty tired but couldn't take a nap. I decided to listen to the audio of rain falling and I fell asleep instantly. And so peacefully. So now, like DH, I'm hooked. And so is DD1 and her husband; they actually leave on a laptop that's hooked to speakers, all night.

I honestly wish I had never started this, because I absolutely find it so hard to fall asleep without the sound of rain now.

It's all DH's fault.

Well I've played one of them for a couple of minutes and now need the loo!

Bamboozled we left London when I was 3 but spent a lot of my childhood visiting friends and relatives there.

I love traffic noise and especially the distant rumble of trains when I'm in bed.

No...I left my stbxh last year and really missed our log fire so I started having it on then.

I used to nod off in front of the real fire a lot so I guess I don't panic because I'm used to it.

It did freak my mum out initially though (we're living with my parents atm).

I've had a white noise/rain type app going on my phone for the last couple of years. Started in pregnancy and now my son has a fan to fall asleep to in his room and I have the app in my room. When my eldest gets scared and comes to cuddle in our room he always asks me to put the noise on as it comforts him.

Also came in useful on a girls weekend away with a room overlooking a nightclub, we used it to drown the sound out.

mumtobelle my son says thats his first memory, sitting in his buggy watching the rain fall on his plastic rain cover. How cosy.

I don't think that is that unusual. My son has musical toys on at night when he goes to bed (three of tthem, to create white noise) and it works well. He can sleep well without them but likes the noise.

That app is exactly what I've been looking for Smile

😂 I currently fall asleep listening to episodes of "the people's court" while I go to sleep. It started about 2 years ago when I lived in London next to a busy road and found it easier to sleep with something else to concentrate on, like someone talking or music, than ambient sounds.

Omg I thought I was the only one who imagined themselves curled up in a cave or tent against the elements outside!! I've done it since I was a little girl!

another not weird. I'm sometimes jealous of DD when I'm pushing her in the buggy in the rain. I love that wrapped up and protected from the elements feeling.

I like the rain on the car video...

Mumtobelle - I visualise I'm all curled up and cosy inside a pram like vehicle in the middle of the countryside and that other people are pushing me home through the storm - weird I know! But it works!

I'm subscribed to one too many "rain" channels on YouTube. When I listen in bed, I visualise myself as a prehistoric woman hiding in a warm and cozy little cave away from the storm outside. I'm snuggling up with my DD(1) in a small ditch covered in soft sabre tooth and bear fur by crackling fire.

Sends me in minutes.

It's called white noise and often used to put babies to sleep.

Here are some of my favourites in this picture.
Note it is the fault of 18mo that I am up at 5am and not the rain app. Grin

I have the Rain Rain app, which has a variety of different rains to fall asleep to. I struggle to fall asleep without it, however I have always struggled with sleep so it is a blessing to me really.
It must be difficult if you usually have sleep which isn't disordered and to have put limits on it this way.

I'm like cherry moved from London to the arse end of nowhere and I can't sleep without a rumble of traffic blaring from my phone each night. Grin

I live in Australia and, as is still quite common here, my house has a metal roof, so have grown used to the sound of rain, very soothing.

I love my rain app. Am about to open window, snuggle in bed and put it on. Sure fire way for me to sleep

You nutter, I've just found that rain on window video on YouTube, what a bloody racket! That noise has the opposite effect on me Grin
I like silence to fall asleep to. And my head is swivelling at the thought of wanting to sleep with rain on your face, but each to their own!

I'm a big fan of;

asoftmurmur.com

It has sliders so that you can add in some thunder, wind and alike too

Ooh Pandora! That's great! Thanks for the link.

Pandora do you ever wake up in a complete panic that your house is on fire!?

I play a clip on YouTube of waves crashing on a beach for my DS if he's really struggling to nap. That's quite nice, but it's in real time and comes with a video so it just makes me want a holiday!

I could have written this, op!

I bought my husband a cd a few years ago with rain and thunder on (Peter samuels - global journey: thunderstorm, if you're interested) and he used to put it on his phone to go to sleep.

It got to the point where we both needed it and it just went on as we got in bed every single night!

We now have a 6 month old so can't listen to that but it has been replaced by Ewan the fecking dream sheep. He's on pretty much all night and it's not even for the baby, it's for us!
