To ask for your tips on how to get through morning (all day) sickness?

I found out I was pregnant two weeks ago and since then I have felt non stop nausea, I've only been physically sick twice but I'm really struggling with the commute, sitting at a desk looking at spread sheets all day, can't cook dinner for DH and even the smell of his aftershave makes me gag.

I've tried plain & ginger biscuits, lots of water, salty crisps, dry toast etc. but everything makes me feel sick and hunger makes it worse. It's too early to tell anyone so I'm just trying to act as normal as possible but it's really getting me down.

I really am so happy about this pregnancy after a miscarriage earlier this year but the nausea is zapping all my excitement and DH is finding it difficult as he can't do anything.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Poor you my fourth pregnancy was like this I vomited a couple of times a day and randomly during the night until about week 16. I found eating little and often whatever I fancied and having a store of plain biscuits helped. I tried "Peggy pops" they didn't really help. I found tiredness made it a lot worse my suggestion is rest as much as you can xxx

Poor you. I had HG with DS2 and it was hell. Only thing I could stomach for months was lucozade orange and rarely toast. Anti-sickness meds from my labour triage and at its worst IM injections helped.

Not trying to scare you as hopefully it passes in a few weeks. Just don't struggle. Rest as much as you can and if it gets worse ask for the anti-emetics. Eat very little & often.

Congrats! Flowers

Congratulations!

For sickness, with dd it was flat diet coke and chocolate bars. I also had to take the folic acid at night as i couldn't keep it down otherwise. With this one, it's plain Pringles. I usually don't eat much junk food, so this is odd for me.

Don't worry too much about eating things at work that you usually wouldn't - people are generally much less observant of that kind if thing than you'd think. I was convinced I'd been rumbled with dd as I was eating up to four chocolate bars a day, having previously had maybe one every few months. No-one even noticed, let alone guessed why!

Green tea, good dark chocolate and Ucal chocolate milk worked for me, and I used those travel bands - no idea if they do anything but it at least gave me something to think about.

It's awful, you poor thing.

I think it's different for everyone. Try different things and maybe there'll be a few things that work? It can be very random. Frozen blueberries made things bareable for me whereas any fresh veg, fruit, dairy or meat made me retch. Drinking ice cold fizzy water through a straw also helped.

You only really need to worry if you don't manage to drink enough. Hope it doesn't last too long for you!

For me the only thing that solved it was giving birth. Cured about an hour after that.

What helped:
Nibbles-particularly salty things.
No milk (curdles on the way up)
No ginger (burns on the way up)
Cola.

Eat what you fancy (within reason, I didn't try the washing powder that I fancied!!)

I feel your pain.

I am just over 13 weeks, I have been signed off work since 7 weeks as I have constant nausea and sickness. My doctor has tried a couple of different medications but to be honest none really do anything and I struggle to take the correct dosage as it often "comes back up".

I thought things were getting better a couple of days ago as I woke up and actually felt OK!!! However that lasted one day, and I am now back to feeling crap and being sick multiple times a day. I am so fed up of being sick.

I am struggling to get enough liquid down as I just don't fancy it, I have just started taking berocca though - so time will tell.

I was told sickness normally eases off at 12 weeks - LIES!

Nothing worked for me but sucking on fruit pastels did help a little. My prenatal tablets made it so much worse. I switched to folic acid, calcium and vitamin d which made the vomiting just a couple of times a day.

My sympathies, it's fucking horrible and doesn't always stop at 12 weeks. congratulations on your pregnancy Flowers

Your dh can help by cooking dinner, emptying the bins and things and just bring a sympathetic ear. Aside from that he can't help much unfortunately.

Frozen raspberries and tonic water got me through. Having said that, I was medicated after being put on a drip once too often.

Urgh it's horrible. I'm very unwell with it myself.
If it's ruining your life then accept you have severe pregnancy sickness and accept it's a serious illness which requires a lot of r&r, more than you've ever known before. Go off sick, go to bed and don't get out of it till you're better which may or may not be at around 20 weeks.
Use the pregnancy sickness support service. They have an excellent forum for women suffering from any degree of sickness. And they have loads of great information and a helpline.

Vitamin B6 has been linked to reducing symptoms of morning sickness so perhaps pick up some supplements?

Sick for 20 weeks with all 3 DC, still can't hear Thomas The Tank Engine theme without wanting to hurl! (It was all worth it). My top tips :
Wouldn't recommend medication. I personally would NEVER take cyclizine again (bloody hallucinations).
Ignore ginger - no effect.
As you say hunger makes it worse so try to raise your blood sugar BEFORE you try eating food. I used Dextrosol tablets or Build - you- up shakes (in Boots, they're the opposite of Slim Fast).
Peanut butter sandwiches.
Plain ham /cream cheese/sliced tomato on Ryvita.
McDonalds when you can face it (it arrives so quick you don't have to visualise it being cooked/ open the fridge etc).
Take care & don't worry about baby "they are very effective parasites"!

Sorry ... gross alert ...
For me it was also related to mucus, so blow your nose and clean your teeth and purge any throat mucus before you try to eat (unless you want to see it again).

Not read the whole thread but have you tried the travel sickness wrist bands they really helped me

I had HG first time round, barfing eight times a day. Ice lollies are great - hydration and sugar. Rest as much as you can. Those first few months are exhausting.

And don't let it put you off. I sailed through my second pregnancy with barely a whiff of nausea, chopped down a tree at six months pregnant and went shoe shopping in labour.

And do watch out for dehydration etc. I felt a massive difference between first 3 months of morning sickness with first 3 children and then the very different 3 months with the twins - much worse, lying on the floor between business calls, special sinks I knew where they were to be sick in. Even so as it eased at 3 months I don't think it was hyperemesis gravidarum (I had to look that name up) - I did not need drip feeding or anything like that but it was very nasty. I kept working because I work for myself so we don't eat if I don't work and my work justi nvolves sitting at a desk but it is ironic that the time when you need a seat on the tube is when no one can see you look pregnant at all and when you suddenly feel right as rain as many of us do at 3 months plus even up to 40 weeks we are offered seats left right and centre.

The only thing that slightly relived mine were plain Jacobs crackers. I'd literally just nibble On them throughout the day. Also really salty and vinegary chips from the fish and chip shop if I was treating myself.

Thanks again everyone - I will definitely pick up some travel bands at the weekend as they used to help me on coach trips as a child.

I think it will be easier when everyone knows, it just takes a lot of energy to act chirpy and on the ball at work when all I want to do is lie down!
