AIBU?

AIBU or too cynical to think it's weird this is a coincidence?

... to receive a leaflet through the door about burglar alarm installation (special deal, £300 off, name and phone number etc), a week after an attempted burglary? Hmm

I know I'm probably too cynical but do you think this sort of thing happens?

We were burgled in the middle of the day actually AS the sales rep from a major home security company was doing door-to-door leafleting and calls. He saw our front door left wide open, noticed no reply when he rang the bell and just carried on up the street with his leaflets. He also noticed the door still wide open an hour later when passing again. He seemed quite proud of his vigilance when he told the police officer who came to dust for prints etc. later on (when we got home and called them). Needless to say we immediately went with another alarm company rather than sign up with that useless fucker.

I made a point of calling their office to explain why we went elsewhere.

I think Haggis has it. Someone else in your area also had attempted burglary maybe and got in an alarm company who then thought good idea to leaflet the area. So IE not a coincidence as such but equally nothing to worry yourself over either.

Luckily there has never been a case of police selling information.

//www.police.uk has all the local area crime maps, the company can easily check to see that there's been recent burglaries.

The crime mapping is pretty fascinating if you're nosy like me

Was it in the papers? listed on the local police website?

Might just be some canny advertising.

Yes, it happens. A spate of minor damage to parked cars on the streets surrounding my friend's house (broken wing mirrors, windscreen wipers, etc) was traced to the mechanic at the garage on the corner!

I think it's just a coincidence

What are you implying? That this company knows who tried to rob your house and arranged it for more business? Confused

I think it's just an unfortunate coincidence.

Sorry to hear about the attempted break in.

No its like when loads of local shop windows get broken and then someone comes round sticking glazier adverts on them. Always makes me go hmmmm.
