AIBU?

To pay a beekeeper to move a nest?

I've discovered a bumble bee nest in my garden. It's on the top of my conservatory roof. We found a lot of dead bees and dozy bees in our washing and all day today outside (first really warm day of the year here) I could hear a constant buzzing. Investigated and they're in a bird house on our conservatory roof. It's a swarm. Coming in and out constantly and a constant noise. The bird house is full and covered in bees Confused

Google says they'll go after a season's up and a bee charity recommends leaving them but does concede there are people who will remove them but say it's not very ethical.

I'm quite frightened of bees and am a writer. Sitting on the patio (where I intended to write all summer...) I can hear the swarm. I know bees are endangered but I would really like them gone. AIBU?

Can you take a photo Chardonnay and we'll see if anyone can identify it?

Interesting, but I have something I don't know the name of that's their absolute favourite.

It's like a fake tan parlour to a hen night party.

I think there are more bees around this year.

The shrubs and the flower pots in my garden are covered, I can hear then buzzing when I walk past, it's a sound that makes me happy.

We are doing building work and have realised there's a bumble bee nest in the ground right in the way. We can't really wait until September October. Does anyone know anybody in London who could move them? Sorry to hijack!

We've got some white bottomed ones going in and out of a gap in the mortar right by where our outside tap is. When I use the tap I try not to go to itwhen they're wanting to get in but if I do they seem to queue up and wait. There's no sound and they just go about their thing. We had some last year too.

A few years ago we had loads of solitary type bees going in and out of holes in a grassy bank. You could walk amongst them when you needed to and they were no bother either.

We had a bees nest in the eaves outside our bedroom window last summer. I think they were tree Bees.

There is a new best above our front door this year. None have ended up in our bedroom yet so I'm not sure which type we have this year.

Pop to ikea and get a couple of the mosquito nets so you and the bees can live happily together on the patio.

Skytvaddict that is a honeybee swarm and ideal to be collected as out in the open.

My Fil had a bees nest in his roof last year. He immediately rang the council and got them to come and kill them. He's such an arsehole and that is typical of him.

I don't know - definitely not bumble and about 10,000 apparently (well that's what the bee man said!). He put them in a box and relocated them to a hive he said. I am glad they are gone - one mis-kicked football could have been a disaster!!

Oh my dear sweet lord, what kind are those?

We had these relocated yesterday. They swarmed then congregated like this in our apple tree Shock

Tarti, don't worry, the tree bumble bees nests aren't that big so they won't take over your house. They may be buzzing at night to cool their nest by flapping their wings...has it been hot where you are ? Have a look at bumblebeeconservation.org/about-bees/identification/common-bumblebees/ for more info. I am not keen on big spiders and they love to live in the roof space of my hives, I am always nervous lifting the roof off in case a spider jumps out.

Have a look at the 'Finding dead bees' FAQ in the link I posted earlier, Poppie. (That would be the link before last.)

I've never had one close enough to hear them at night, I must confess. This link may go some way to explaining it but I'll leave it to the experienced beeks posting to comment. Smile

I love bees and hoping that they are attracted to our bee friendly plants have put in now we finally have a garden! Is it true that average lifespan is only 28 days for a bumble? 😞

Oh cozie that is marvellous Smile
I shall just enjoy them then. And wear earplugs at night...

As a child, I would go out into the woods on summer mornings before the sun had burned off the overnight moisture. The sight of large, shining spider webs glistening with dew drops fair changes your general attitude to them. Smile

Lucky you, tarti. Smile

You should be fine - and this guidance might prove reassuring. (The bit about 'Nests in other places' especially.)
