my cousin is on holiday
it's been step by step status update
"in taxi"
"at airport flying to x"
"at airport"
at hotel
at various attractions, restaurants etc... lots of pics - like seeing these
but the latest is
"eating vegetable noodles"
am so tempted to reply "seriously?" but then i'd get grief from her/my aunty etc...

i mean AIBU ?????

I hope OP you can see the irony in this!

Awww, they're just 'making memories'.

I don't get all the Facebook angst. Just hide annoying people or delete, it's easily done!
I was under the impression that all your "friends" friends etc. can see your page? Am I wrong?
Depends on what your settings are. If they're set to friends only, only your friends will see it. Unless you've tagged other people into the status, then the person tagged friends will be able to see it too.

Yes, you're wrong - your posts are visible to who you want them to be visible too; generally it is just to your own friends. You could set it to friends-of-friends, or even to public, but there's no reason to. You can also set it to very specific lists of friends if you want. It's under your control who can see what you post.

I am also horrible and would have to post a sarcastic "be sure to let us all know when you have your first poo in your #fabulous hotel bathroom"

OP, your thread is as dull and unnecessary as her FB updates. charming. no one asked you to read it.

If a burglary happens as a result of a facebook post then at least you've got a readily available list of suspects.

I think yab a teensy bit u if I'm honest. They're obvs having a great trip and want to remember every boring little detail. I'd suggest a discreet unfollow and let them get on with it.

Burglary does happen when people are stupid enough to announce their whereabouts all over social media.

Unfollow people who annoy you.

Make a list of people who you know have a real interest in you and make visible to them. Anyone family that I can't delete or someone would moan I add as an aqquaintance so they don't see most updates. I know they don't give a sod about the kids or me we just have to have each other on there cos fahhmily init? Grin

Neighbours of ours got burgled hours after they'd used a taxi to get to the airport - they smashed their door in with an axe.

Yes, you should only share those memories with a relevant update, eg:

10 years ago: toddler in rugby kit
Ha ha, look at him now: lanky teenager in considerably muddier rugby kit

Actually, in general, it's crap to share stuff without adding any comment at all, even if it's just "Please read this article and let me know what you think."

Either be happy for her or hide her - it's quite simple & no need for anything nasty or sarcastic. As a pp said, FB is what you make it.

I'd reply 'oh are you on holiday? Strange I never heard you mention it' I did that to someone who started every bloody post that he was in Benidorm.....yes we know we got it!

"her next status will probably be 'gutted, we've been burgled"

I don't know about the company you mix with but my friends and families have yet to show any thieving tendencies.

yes i don't want to unfollow her as i want to see her pics etc... and that of her kids.

but i want to say something REALLY sarcastic but know it'll get me in trouble!!

thing is she gets zero likes on those posts, so i don't know why she doesn't get the hint. everyone likes, comments etc on her "interesting" ones.

i have taken FB off my phone to stop being irritated. i just check it from the PC now and again.

oh yes and the memories!! please don't inflict them on us. nice for the person but of interest to everyone else? no.

That would drive me completely mad but then I don't have FB and never will. I've read about the first six threads on ABU and three, including this one, is FB related.

Delete it, feel the freedom. It's perfectly possible to still keep in touch with family and friends, I and other non FB people manage just fine.

her next status will probably be 'gutted, we've been burgled'

There is now precedent for insurers to refuse to pay up when the insured party has advertised that they're away by posting holiday pictures "live".

I have been known to post QUICK, ROB THE HOUSE! on tedious holiday updates.
