My cleaner has opened a brand new reed defuser which I got in the sales and was keeping for when the newish one we have out is finished. The thing that has really pissed me off is she put it on the shelf next to the one we already have out and threw away the lid so I can't put it away so now have 2 fancy £20 smelly things out at the same time! Would I be a cow to confront her about it?

No one did yet Ozzie, but the way mumsnet is lately I'm sure it'll come up at some pointGrin

Not typical to be opening reed diffusers or throwing away shampoo.

Maybe have a box of cleaning things and ask her not to open or throw away anything that isn't in the box?

Gowgirl Where did I accuse the OP of exploitation?

Just shows I'll do anything rather than tackle my kitchen!

It is an old thread too. Not ancient, but what a shame that a spammer had to resurrect it.

Wow!
Now someone needs to accuse the op of 'exploitation' and we've got a real doozy of a thread!

Indeed Uterus. It's the thread that keeps on giving when you least expect it. Hmm

OP If your cleaner is an immigrant is it possible she is taking the items left with a few uses only, home, as she cannot afford to buy them? Perhaps she thinks you will not mind.

Why are people reporting this thread!

They aren't reporting the thread. They are reporting the now deleted message above, which was spam.

Please only throw things away that are already in the bins. That's easy to deal with politely.

You could simply say that you had bought the reed defuser [whatever that is] as a present for a friend. You would appreciate if she didn't unwrap or open new items. That you will restock candles and other home stuff. Most people would be mortifed and wouldn't do it again.

I have actually taken to hiding some stuff that I know she will throw out now!

Ooh, slightly jealous that your cleaner does this!
Our cleaner is both lovely, and great at cleaning, but never touches our stuff - she cleans around things (as dh is always at pains to point out to me, nagging me to pick my stuff up the evening before she comes to clean).
If only she would take it upon herself to throw some of our (copious and excessive) stuff away for us... That would be a dream come true.

DC do this and it drives me batty.

I think you are going to have to ask her not to throw anything away - just clean.

Good luck Grin

I hate it when people throw things before completely empty - so wasteful.

DP will declare shower gel empty and it lasts me about another fortnight.

And don't get me started on sunpat peanut butter. That jar seems to be designed to make you give up using it with about a fifth left.

I'd also just ask her to clean. She seems like she actually cares and goes over and above what a cleaner should do so be kind.

Well why are you sitting there keeping quiet for a year about this? Simply tell her not to do that.
