To ask if anyone else has a partner who does most of the cooking?

I've been catching up on post Xmas MN threads. I've not seen one yet where the DP/DH cooked the Xmas meal.

Likewise catering for guests and everyday cooking being the role of the woman appears to be the norm on MN.

Anyone else have a capable and enthusiast cook as a partner?

DH is definitely the better cook here. He tends not to be here for weekday dinners but always does breakfasts and all weekend cooking. He also did Xmas dinner. I don't like cooking so it's definitely more of a chore for me. I'm a good baker though.

My family are generally all women-in-the-kitchen so they think the sun shines out of him for it Hmm

Pretty even here. I don't work outside the home so I do most of cooking during the week, but DH does most of it at weekend, during holidays. He cooked main meal on Xmas day.

We also both do lots of cooking big pots/trays of things to be reheated easily later, so it's always easy to throw a quick meal together.

If one or the other of us is busy/ill, the other will take the strain for a few days, then get a day or two's break as a thank you when the other is back on their feet.

Took a while to find the right rhythm but it works beautifully now.

DH does 99% of cooking for adult meals. I do cook for the kids, make lunches and bake. I'm an okay cook but have to follow a recipe and don't enjoy it much. DH used to enjoy it but is sick of it, however he tends to do overly complicated meals and keeps saying he will cut back to sandwiches and soup which would be fine with me. I've been trying to cook more but it ends up costing extra as trying to follow a recipe means I have to buy additional ingrediants whereas DH looks in fridge and pantry and can figure out something with what is there. I would prefer to meal plan so I can use a recipe but he isn't keen. Therefore in my view he can keep cooking...

DP does the vast majority of it in our house. He's much more competent than me. On Christmas day I peeled potatoes and carrots, he did everything else.

I'm the cook, DW is the baker. I'm only allowed bread and pizza base, she's allowed white fish and mince.

I cooked all over Christmas except for the puddings.

No. I'm jealous. Neither of us really enjoy cooking, it's more of a chore. I've just told DH that he needs to do more of the cooking. His excuse was because I'm veggie he doesn't know what to cook me but I didn't accept that. I said he knows how to heat up a can of vegetable soup or a veggie burger and chips or cook some pasta and pour a jar of sauce over it and he makes a mean spag bol with soya mince. I'm not actually as fussy about food as he is and I've learned to prepare things that he likes. We compromised on him cooking dinner 3 nights a week and me cooking 4 nights. So hopefully that will help take some of the pressure off me if he sticks to it. I'm really looking forward to coming home to a hot meal.

Mine does everything kitcheny- some days I think he'd rather I didn't even go in there Shock

I "use the wrong knives" apparently and leave a mess on the chopping board...

Dh cooked Christmas dinner and most of the meals over the past two weeks as he was off work.

DH enjoys cooking and does it all, as well as the food shop at the weekend. I can cook but find it boring. All meals are agreed and if we entertain I make the pudding.

I do cleaning, hoovering, bed changes, washing and folding laundry, though I only I iron my things.

We both garden and he does most of the DIY.

My DH is the cook here, I'm perfectly capable but he WANTS to do it, so I'm happy to let him get on with it. He's not so good at the clearing up, but I can live with that and do it myself

My DP is a chef and as such takes care of most of the cooking at home because I am pretty hopeless in the kitchen (except when it comes to Old El Paso kits, no one is allowed in the kitchen when I do those, I don't even let him stir a fajita mix). He dealt with Christmas dinner too. In this respect we're perfect for each other because he does the cooking and I am nigh-on obsessive about getting dishes washed posthaste so there's no moaning about how many dishes are left to do.

DH is a superb cook. He often works away during the week, and loves to get into the kitchen when he is at home. He cooked Christmas dinner (always does) - my job is to sit back and drink gin. On NYE he cooked a fiendishly complicated Yottem Ottolengi vegetarian feast - he did all the prep the day before while I was at a dog training event. Both of us enjoy it, though I tend to do a bit more baking.

DH does all the cooking and clearing up, I can cook and in fact a good cook. But he gets home before me so it makes sense.
I on the other hand do all the washing ironing and changing beds.

I do all the cooking, along with meal planning. DH is an OK basic cook, but he doesn't enjoy it and finds it stressful, whereas I love it, love trying new things and often bake. Although the DC are picky eaters so I don't enjoy cooking for them much!

DH does a lot more cleaning and other chores. I sometimes think I should make him do some cooking to keep his hand in, though.

Another one with a DH that does a lot of the cooking - he has always cooked Christmas dinner. I can cook but he enjoys cooking so much more than I do....

We share the cooking, depending on who gets in from work first & who feels like doing it. I think he enjoys it more than I do, though, and is always consulting recipe books for new stuff to try. I tend to stick to tried & trusted favourites. At Christmas he was in charge of the turkey, the ham & the gravy & I looked after the rest.

DH does nearly all of it. There are a lot of other household tasks he won't/doesn't do, so I leave him to it, given that he's happy to do that one. After only about 15 years, DM and DMIL have stopped remarking on it Hmm

My husband is a chef Smile

He does all the 'entertaining' cooking and meals for the two of us, I do a lot of the cooking for the kids, he doesn't cope well with their rejection of his seasoning and spices! Grin

My DP cooked the Christmas Lunch. He does a mean roast.

I do most of the cooking usually, with him doing Sunday lunch most weeks. I get home earlier than him so get the tea on for the family. I also make healthier meals, so I take on the bulk of it!

I've been poorly for the last week and he has done all of the cooking (and ordering of take aways) not to mention the cleaning and everything else.

DH does all the meal planning, food shopping and cooking all year round. If he's not around for some reason I either don't eat or I heat something he's left me in the microwave. I only go in the kitchen because it's where the washing machine and tumble dryer are.

If something happened to him I'd sign up for Wiltshire Farm Foods immediately.

I don't enjoy cooking much and find it stressful but DH enjoys it and so does most of the cooking day to day despite working longer hours. I'm a slightly better cook however, so will cook important meals like Christmas dinner.

DH's brother actually did the Xmas dinner. For 24 of us!

I cook everyday at 5 for the 8 children I mind and dh come home and cooks later for us - he says he finds it relaxing
