I get really irritated by this but don't know if I'm being stupid.

We have a dishwasher but wash some things in the sink. There is a sink and drainer and a worktop by the sink where I generally stack dirty dishes. There is also a bowl on the worktop where I put the baby's bottles before washing or chick dirty teaspoons and mugs.

I keep the draining board nice and clean because I stack the clean dishes there. I do have a dish rack but if it's full things might go on the draining board. I wash the baby's bottles by hand.

People dh constantly put dirty things on the draining board. Everything from a teaspoon to a roasting dish to a masher. Not to mention stacking dirty dishes on the window sill. It ends up all bits of food and crap on the draining board.

Isn't the draining board supposed to stay clean?

This is my DH! He does more than his fair share in the house so I don't feel I can keep nagging him but draining boards and, in fact, the entire sink area is a complete blind spot for him.

I honestly think that if I left him to it or just left him!, the entire thing would end up covered in mold and slime and he'd just carry on using it.

Me too flatonthehill, so it makes more work.

The things are to be washed, so exactly, why not put them in the dishwasher, in the sink, in the washing up bowl, on the worktop. Anywhere but the draining board really.

To be fair he does loads I can't complain he's been to work in the morning, came back made us all bacon sandwiches, drove me round the shops, cleared up after our meal and put the baby to bed.

He just wouldn't notice bits of food on the draining board.

YANBU. Not at all. My husband has never understood that in order for the clean dishes to remain clean once washed, the dish drainer and draining board also need to be kept clean. Drives me bananas.

Of course the draining board/rack should stay clean! My draining rack goes in the dishwasher every now and then on a hot wash.

When your DH puts things on the draining board, are they to be washed, or used again within a few minutes? If to be washed, why doesn't he just put them in/directly above the dishwasher?

LTB for sure and enjoy your nice clean draining board.

Dirty draining boards drive me mad. Why even bother washing the dishes then putting them on a dirty surface?

We have a dishwasher and my DH will leave dirty cutlery on the work surface just above it. Instead of putting it in. Angry

Yes the draining board is meant to be clean. If I see a piece of food on it i get all obsessed, get the Flash out and clean the whole thing.
