AIBU?

Genuinely don't know who is being unreasonable here. (Puppy related).

I'll try to keep this short.

A friend of a friend (FoF) is a backstreet breeder-being an animal lover I 100% disapprove.

One pup of the last litter was rejected by Mum.

I was advised about this in the middle of the night, pup was one week old, I went to emergency vet and purchased pup formula and rushed over with it.

Three days later, I was called by FoF, pup won't take formula, again, me being an animal lover-morals told me to go and help. I went to supermarket, purchased greek yogurt, syrup, a syringe, goats milk, stuff I knew is okay for pup to have, drove the 45 mins there to help, got pup to feed, came back.

BSB then tried to raise pup herself but couldn't cope with litter of pups, two other dogs, Mum etc. Pup fell and hurt herself few times and also had narrow misses with Mum who was still out to kill her. I took pup on myself. I live with a friend who I checked with if this was okay and if he was willing to be part of it as obviously he would be, living with us both. He doesn't work-I do so I had to ensure he could and was willing, to take care of her when I wasn't about.

He's also daft for animals, like me and agreed and has done the care when I've not been here.

Since then I've taken pup to vet twice, taken care of her, done night feeds, bought food and more formula you get the picture.
I realise, I didn't have to do any of this and it has all been my choice.

Now, my friend and I have a dog each, so we live together with our two dogs. Luckily both okay with pup.

Friend's said he doesn't want pup to go back to BSB, doesn't want her to end up in a potentially dodgy home, thus will happily keep her himself. However, BSB wants paying for pup.

BSB has now sold all other pups, and has said she'll give my friend a discount, meaning instead of paying £4-£600 , he can have pup for £200.

People aware of the situation have all said, pup would be dead without mine and his intervention, therefore BSB shouldn't charge him at all.

I honestly do not know. Some people have said haggle, others have said point blank pup should be given to him, as the situation means pup would have died if not for our intervention.

What do you think?

Thank you.

For those that don't know - the last deal was a very begrudging £100 for puppy!

This is sounding like a great achievement.

Puppy needs to live with you (rescued and nourished in early days when puppy could have died).

  1. Microchip puppy
  2. Apply for DWL license for puppy www.gov.uk/licence-wild-animal
  3. Tell Back-street-puppy-breeder to accept that she released this puppy to your care when few weeks old
  4. Any more shenagigans and you will report her to the authorities.
  5. Mumsnetters will swoop in and take the breeding animals and get them re-homed rather than put-to-sleep.

DM where you are OP. I am not kidding about using my contacts to make sure puppy stays with you (FREE).

Yay! Just read the thread all in one go, so was saved suspense & got the They All Lived Happily Ever After.

The bit of the story I'm missing, however, is the Evil Villain getting their uppance v thoroughly comed. Via DWP + HMRC + RSPCA in this instance perhaps?

Could someone send me an update please??

PinkPjamas · 16/01/2016 14:32

Hi all!I will have some time this afternoon to send another batch of pms but basically, I sent pms detailing that the bsb wouldn't agree and wanted the demanded payment.

However after that, I got involved as she msgd me, saying she was arguing with my friend. She was quite aggressive in her msgs. I replied calmly and 'on the fence' but said I had the best interests of the pup at heart. She backed down.

I'm so pleased you've "won" (as far as that's possible) but can you report her somehow? Anonymously maybe to avoid problems for your friend? RSPCA, benefits people, HMRC? She shouldn't be able to get away with this

Report
SouthWesterlyWinds · 15/01/2016 21:18

Did you have to take her to court?

Just started reading this and was going to reply along the lines of charging BSB for everything you spent on the pup including your time, petrol etc, but obviously I am pleased to see you have had a good result.

(Would be interested to know just what BSB was hoping to do though)
