-Name changed but am a regular - being vague on details just in case-

Why do people put statuses on Facebook which cause alarm and concern, then when you text them to check all is ok, say they don't want to discuss it?!

Then you arrive at work and all and his dog know about it yet said person doesnt want to discuss it with you.

Bit peeved and on learning further details, very concerned. Then read further cryptic facebook statuses...

Sorry, IKIABU but I needed to sound off. Really annoyed. Told a colleague this morning that said colleague can sod off if thats their attitude (to put status on facebook then refuse to discuss when sending a text of saw your status on facebook hope all is ok) to be told how serious the incident was - and that most people in work know about it.

Said person usually discusses everything with me. I am puzzled whyI got such a short, shrift message....

I could just be being a bit sensitive but everyone at work certainly seemed to know about it, however, colleague I spoke with above was happily telling me what had happened so it may well be a case of someone else sharing her news(?)

But then to text me on my birthday - not actually saying happy birthday but "Have a good day. Are you working" then to turn it around on her - selfish.

I guess what's even worse in this instance is that they're happy to put up and public status and discuss with everyone but you?

Yes, that would bother me as well. Especially if I'd sent a text asking after them as well.

Unfollow and then think no more. That's what I do.

People do it because they are attention seeking dicks.

Oh I will be. Especially seeing as it was started by a message wishing me happy birthday and was i working today - i replied yep i am, no point taking the day off when everyones busy - the reply? "Well I'd rather be at work than doing what I am doing today" Evidently prompting me to ask whats happened...

Yep agree with lottie. It's just attention seeking. Best to ignore them and not give them the attention they so desperately crave.

It wasn't that kind of message BarbaraofSeville It was more a thank you to X, Y and Z helping me out during XYZ time. I am trying not to post verbatum what was said but I discovered this morning that it is serious enough that the police are involved.

It's called vaguebooking I think. My SIL does it all the time and I just ignore her now.

I dont worry about so much as I like to think if anything terrible really happened to her, her first instinct wouldn't be to go on Facebook and post a 'so upset right now, crying my eyes out' status.

Really has riled me even though, now knowing what has happened, that it is serious. Apparently colleague whom I spoke with got a similar reply at first and said ok and then got a reem of messages about what had happened.

I certainly won't be rushing to check they are ok again, considering the status, although suggesting a problem was still quite upbeat and jovial.

I feel like I'm throwing a sulk over something thats not worth it over, (UI'm not) but I guess I just feel hurt as a supposed friend to get such a message when others clearly knew what had happened.

Short answer? Because they're attention seekers. 100% pure and simple.

People do it because it gives them joy to cause "are you ok hun, text me" episodes. Just unfollow on Facebook and never mention it, they'll be breaking their neck next time. Knobs.

Facebook is for pictures of cats and stupid shit your kids say/do. Anything else is unnecessary and pointless.
