To eat or/and drink in the bathroom?

Personally we have always done this. Last night I enjoyed a long bath with a nice chilled glass of rose. Perfect.

However in laws are around and have just made huge catbum faces about dh taking his tea into the bathroom whilst he supervises kids bath. He's sitting on a chair with a magazine and tea literally just checking the small beings don't drown themselves, not exactly with his head down the toilet. Mil has just gone in to ask if he wanted her to take tea out again ( which he didn't)

I mean I wouldn't eat my roast dinner off the toilet seat, but in general is there that much wrong with food or drink in the bathroom? It's a perfectly clean bathroom that is cleaned basically daily and then scrubbed weekly by our cleaner. In fact it's probably cleaner than living room tbh as we don't deep clean that weekly.

Do you do this?

Long bath with bubbles,a book and a glass of wine is heaven.

DH also been known to drink a beer while in the shower.

If the ice cream van comes when I'm in the bath, the DC always get me a Cornetto to eat in the bath

I used to drink wine, or one of those ready mixed cocktails in a tin, in the bath on a Sunday afternoon, with all the Sunday papers. And a Baileys once I had done the Xmas shopping. Lovely. Have stopped it now I don't drink alcohol.

We do unfortunately have lots of DC and one toilet, which is in the bathroom. I was in the bath once when littlest DS came in to have a wee, and absent mindlessly turned round to talk to me mid flow - that wasn't nice Luckily I wasn't eating a Cornetto then.

don't get me wrong, all my flats in this country had toilets in bathroom, but that's the first thing I changed when I got a house! (I have boys at home... enough said)

Norbert they were shocked enough when they came in from going out for a meal one evening and found me and DH sprawled on the sofa in front of a delivery pizza box watching Bakeoff. The horror! DH's family are a lot classier than mine, at my house you got told off for talking at dinner if you were interrupting the television.

I wouldn't take food into a public restroom/toilet, but into my own bathroom, when not using the toilet and because the lid is kept down, is fine.

I've never lived in a house with a bathroom that didn't contain a toilet. My grandparents' very old council houses were the only houses I came across with separate toilets and one of those was outside.

DH often takes a beer in while supervising kids. But this is an in-law thing isn't it? Ours were here last week and refused to eat any dinner until we found them napkins, even though we only moved house 10 days ago.

I more puzzled by the amount of bathrooms who have toilets in them (seats up and everything) than someone having a cup of tea near the bath.

Well, no, but those who are up in arms at the thought of "poo crumbs" ( ) getting on their food and drink might want to also freak out at the "contamination" of other things that they put in their mouth!

I'd struggle with anything that required a knife and fork but sandwiches, chocolate, tea, gin or wine are all fair game. My hands tend to be at their cleanest when I'm in the bath. I keep a handtowel nearby though. Love chilling out in the bath - I even have a waterproof tablet so I can watch a bit of telly...

Actually, if you think about it, you put your toothbrush (which is stored in the bathroom, usually open to the environment) in your mouth at least twice a day so what's the difference with putting food in your mouth. At least the food hasn't been forever standing around in the bathroom like your toothbrush.

Personally though I don't eat in there but occasionally I'll finish my tea if I'm running out of time and have left it to cool down whilst I shower.

Eating in the bath is unnecessary really. I am still struggling with the though of a bath and a boiling hot cup of tea or coffee.

Wine or tea in the bath is the best thing ever. I have eaten a box of chocs in the bath too

Hot drinks in the bath-that's a no from me but a nice ice cold alcoholic drink is very nice.

I wouldn't really enjoy a cuppa while the DC were in the bath TBH and would rather wait til i can relax with it. Plus IIRC I had to be involved in stopping them making potions with the shower gel and creating tidal waves.

No, when I say tea I mean tea. As in a cup of tea. Evening meal is called dinner and eaten at the table!

Some old people have such weird standards.. but this what they're used to I guess. Maybe it's less about germs and more about social etiquette and old fashioned habits. I bet they drink their tea in the sitting room or kitchen and that's it. "Imagine if someone saw us have tea in the bathroom, what would people think!"
I'm so glad we're becoming more easy going about standards/expectations! E.g. My grandparents wouldn't have considered wearing anything other than proper clothes even when chilling out, now most of us wear slobs or pjs if we're staying at home. I would not have fit in well if I was in their generation
