I know we all make mistakes but come on, how can you leave a baby unattended in the sea for even a minute? Don't know where this family are from but I hope somebody finds them and has a stern word?

How the hell do you forget about your own baby.
It's terrifying to think what could have happened.
They may not be particularly bad people or parents and I'm sure they love this little girl but I think they need educating on children's safety and monitored very closely by sS.

Could care less, mother, father whatever. Putting a baby near the water and taking your eyes off that child for any amount of time is neglect.

tomato I heard on the radio and have read in different articles the parents were sunbathing and forgot about her and it was others the raised the alarm.

maybe one of them took the baby down to the edge of the water and put the little.crib just at the shallow bit so the motion would rock her to sleep and they lay back so their upper body was in the sand but feet in water and watching the baby but fell asleep and baby got swept out.

I read a report that said she got out too deep and bathers could no longer reach her and then raised the alarm as she started to be swept out to sea. That suggests she was not alone, maybe not being watched by the parents but different cultures might have different definitions of unattended. Just a thought, not saying the parents weren't negligent, perhaps they were. But as others have pointed out, there might be more to the story than the neglectful mother angle the Daily Mail salivates over.

Atenco Shock That really is incredible!

Yeap, many years ago I worked in the Rockies and the stories of tourist imbecilities abounded. There was one of a family smearing their 4-year-old's face with honey to get a photo of a bear licking him.

ThumbWitch, sadly, many bears have had to be put down as they have become too familiar with humans. They are first tranquiliised and moved far away from the location but often return. Once they return, they face death as they are no loner fearful of humans and think nothing of entering cars or tents looking for a handout :(

Yes, Silver - it's completely amazing how people don't realise that wild animals are actually wild, isn't it! Where we live, there is a huge mob of kangaroos that are quite used to people, but are still not tame. We often see people down there, with toddlers going right up to the big kangaroos, or dozy twats trying to "box" the kangaroos - they're pretty placid but if you rile them up, then you'd be in trouble - their back paw claws are as long and thick as my little finger, and the strength in their back legs, should they decide to kick you in the belly, would probably rupture something.

My only surprise is that, as yet, no one has been seriously hurt. But one day they will be and god help the poor kangaroos then :(

My brother is a Park Ranger, the stories he tell about vacationing people is unbelievable. Parents do the most unthinkable things whilst on vacation like pose their children on the back of bison or try feed bears. Unfortunately, first responders are often called in to risk their lives rescuing people from their own bad choices on vacation. I believe this story.

I don't believe for one moment that they "forgot" they'd put the baby in the inflatable. I believe that they put her in it and thought that they could get a few moments to themselves while she bobbed around happily in the shallows. What they didn't expect was the wind and tide to drag her quickly out to sea.

It is still stupid and negligent to have left her unattended, but I doubt very much that they forgot she was there, they just didn't think about the wind and tide.

You lot are normally all quick to hoist your judgy knickers up to great hights and almost make the knicker elastic self combust I find passing judgment on the actions of others as reported in a short newspaper article is a totally worthless event.

What is worth noting is that an inflatable on the sea is extremely risky for both adults and children.

That is why I would not let my dd's father take her to the beach, small children need a lot of looking after around the sea and I did not trust to remember than once he had his obligatory couple of beers

That's what I mean sam

the mail would have gleefully strung them.up for every impure thought or parking ticket in 1965 or the time they took an E at college. but there's nothing. not a single thing.

The suspicious side of me is wondering what the hell.is being covered up here.

I guess they left her in the inflatable crib - asleep maybe? - on the beach near them. They lie there for a while, zone out, tide comes in a bit, enough to the take the inflatable out with it. This is the reasonable explanation for an awful story where the parents seem to be 100% at fault - I just cannot imagine this happening to anyone keeping even half an eye out for their child.

We live near the beach and are there regularly after school and at weekends and I see some incredibly risky behaviour during summer season when the tourists arrive. I can quite believe the parents in this case Sat her on the shore line at low tide and then the tide came in which caused her to float away.

Just glad she's safe.

There are people who seem able to leave their brains behind when they go on holiday.

Way, way, way beyond negligence.

What stupid, negligent parents. There ive said it its true!
They are so very lucky :(

She looks 10m old to me!

I read this on the bbc first and they were quite neutral about the whole thing but the negligence seems to stem from the fact it was other beach goers who tried to help and her parents seemed oblivious

It IS beyond negligent. A ten month old in a dingy whom the parents "forgot"? FUCK! No excuse. Jesus!

I am a relaxed parent by many people's standards but I am paranoid near water.

I wouldn't let my 6 and 8 year old paddle in the sea without me, dh or her older brother's beside them.

The only time I think I would leave them with a flotation device unsupervised is when they have left home and have their own children Grin

The sea scares me.

The baby was 10 months old. I don't think she looked any older than that, but even if she was, at what age would it be acceptable to put your child in a floatation device and leave them unsupervised in the sea?

I don't understand the level of denial on this. There is a video showing how far out to sea the baby was and the coastguards having to rescue her. There is no plausible way that baby got these unless the parents were negligent.

She I don't think it does make sense.

There's very little detail. I mean the media have all reported the same thing but it's all padded out very few actual facts.

For starters the kid looks older than reported.

usually with these kind of stories there's comments from the parents urging others to not make the same mistake.

you just don't forget you have a baby. There's no report that they were mentally ill or drunk or on drugs or something.

The kid was given straight back to the parents.

things happen to people and children every day. People die every day in horrible ways. Thanks to modern day phones there's never a shortage of footage either.

I do wonder why this story made it to the media when due to lack of any comments or reports of the situation before hand or whatever there is very little that's been said.

I'm. not saying it didn't happen. obviously it did but I still think theres something weird about it all
