AIBU?

Aibu, Toothbrush for christmas?

So I was in Costco and spotted children's sonic air toothbrushes for a really reasonable price. I mentioned them to the old git and said they would be good for Christmas presents and he was horrified I should be so mean to even suggest getting them for our boys for Christmas....

Whaaaa??!!! Aibu? I really don't think I am!

So pleased to read this, my kids now aged 22, 19 & 18 still get a toothbrush in their Christmas stocking and love it. First year I did a stocking for my stepson, of course I put in a toothbrush. He was incredulous and thought Santa had gone mental

Everyone in our house gets a toothbrush in their stocking. Normally a fancier one than usual. Socks, pants and PJs at Christmas too, it's tradition!

DH got a fancy electric one for his birthday. It was on request and I gave him other things too. DCs have had them in stockings. I try and give some non tat stuff.

My parents once got us a 90 electric toothbrush that served us very well thank you until it got mangled in a house move (we replaced it). SIL got something similar from FIL and the family was up in arms that she didn't get the expected pile of scented shite. She refused to us her gift and binned it!!!

We have better teeth btw and I am certain using an electric brush contributes.

I have often bought toothbrushes- the novelty ones are great stocking fillers.
I have also bought my teenagers good electric ones as gifts. DS will be getting a good rechargable Braun one this year too.

New electric toothbrushes were my children's favourite present one year. Just cheapie kids battery ones in their stockings, nothing special, but for some reason much appreciated.

Eva50, seriously? Some people just like to show off I suppose!

Our Santa presents are organised by the school- most of the time it's a book and a selection box, keeps everyone the same which I think is better.

DS usually gets a toothbrush, toothpaste and a facecloth in his stocking- he is 5 and they usually have a superhero or character from a film on them.

Don't see anything wrong with giving it as an extra present if it's something they need.

Two years running my ds1 & 2 got toothbrushes, toothpaste and a small book from Santa at their Christmas party. The parents had to wrap the present, (no more than £5) label with the child's name and hand it over first.
Some parents really went over the top. Big toy fire engines and dolls. "It should have been £30 but I got it for £4.99 in the sale!". Which was not the point of having a limit

My boys were always delighted with their gift and other children were often more interested in what mine had than their own. They are 19 & 17 now and still like new toothbrushes.

I've never given or been given a toothbrush for Christmas and never will, but nothing wrong with it if you think they need it / will like it.

I think there is a difference between shoving an ordinary toothbrush in a stocking and buying them a more expensive electric toothbrush. Assuming the OP is talking about a Sonic Care one.

I'm getting mine character electric toothbrushes for their stockings. I don't see the problem!

So I get that it's probably not a child's dream gift, but it's practical and will have the 'Christmas' novelty factor that makes it a little more special than just getting a toothbrush on a normal day. It's much better than getting a load of tat that's never used!

I often put them as stocking fillers.

Yanbu. Presumably it isn't their only present! Doesn't hurt to get practical things as well as fun stuff IMO. We also got toothbrushes, new flannels and sponges in our stockings every year as children. We didn't really care at the time, as it was something to unwrap and in later years me, db and dsis had a good chuckle at the tradition.

Another one who always does toothbrushes in stockings. Teen DS got a Boots voucher a few Christmases ago and bought himself an electric toothbrush with it so he gets a pack of replacement heads now instead Grin

I always put a toothbrush and toothpaste in the kids stockings.

If given as a main present I would feel it was stingey but as an extra in a stocking I think it's fab and my kids are always desperate to use their new toothbrush.
