AIBU?

To expect a buggy to be able to go up and down stairs?

Purchased a Joie brisk and just about toppled over the buggy pulling it up a set of stairs to my house. The break overhangs and catches and then jams on! Not a good design. Informed the manufacturers and they say it is not designed to be used with stairs! I must use the disabled ramp! What ramp - it's a house!! What about getting it on a bus? Or train? Must you have a car and live on the flat to own this buggy??

Mountain Buggies and Out n About Nippers and Bugaboo Cameleons are the best for stairs I have 16 up to my front door, so I researched this very thoroughly. I live on a busy road and with two toddlers this was my main consideration. Which recommended the Mountain Buggy and it is easy we go on the tube and often I just pull it up flights of stairs.

News flash...'ALL buggies are NOT designed to be used on steps'...Glasgow Pram Centre

It's not exactly news, it's common sense isn't it?

Please tell me you're joking OP?

Buggies of course are not designed for stairs! Yes people might bump them up stairs but that dosnt mean it's intended to be used like that, just that lots of people ignore these particular guidelines.

If you want them to warn on the website you can't use it on stairs they should also add "not to be used underwater and not to be used while skydiving" because they are just as ridiculous.

No that's ALL Buggies and that's everywhere ...not to be used on trains or buses or taken up kerbs. No no no. You MUST live on the flat (perhaps Holland?) and also have an extra pair of hands because shock horror if you do encounter a step you MUST get the child out the buggy and fold it down then proceed up the step then set up the buggy again and put the child back in. Unrealistic? Not at all according to the 'lovely' lady from customer who had a lot to say on the subject...really? It's difficult enough!

You're quite cross aren't you? It's amazing how steps are invisible before you have a baby and omnipresent afterwards.

Constructive advice;

1)You'd hate life with a double buggy. Space your DC out really well.

2) Buy one of the posh stokkes that Isandri suggested or visit the pushchair board to get a specialised recommendation from the lovely nerdy ladies there

3) Have some Wine

I think to expect a buggy to go up stairs is daft. I think most people just find a way to jiggle their buggy as best as possible up the steps if they have no alternative.

Or if you know you have a lot of steps to use then like a pp did you research the best way to get around it.

I think some of you are all being unnecessarily harsh on the OP.

I think expecting buggies to go up steps is a reasonable thing. It seems the buggy industry thinks otherwise, but really, how would you know that?

I've been using buggies since my first DC was born nearly 6 years ago, and also for several years when I was a nanny, way back when. It has never crossed my mind that buggies are not meant to go on steps, only that some of them are better at it than others. If you live in central London, and have no car, I have no idea how you'd manage without doing steps, anyway.

My oldest is nearly 11 and have had in that time and 3 dc a good handful of strollers and 3 desperate prams and every single one has said in the booklet that comes with it NOT to bump up and down stairs.
I always did as it was far more practical but knew I was risking damage to the pram. I figured I was unlikely to drop it and always took shopping off it.

I agree with the underwater and sky diving scenario being just as ridiculous. There is no buggy manufacturer that is going to say yep go for it bounce this buggy up and down 150 steps a day and we guarantee it's safety.
You are being totally ludicrous.
