AIBU?

to be fed up with all the constant sport on TV?

I am just fed up with it. World cup, Wimbledon, Golf, Formula 1, now the Commonwealth Games.

Why is it on the main channels? Why isn't it on BBC 3 or 4? Why is it on BBC 1, as if it is THE most important thing on TV?

I bet the audiences for the Commonwealth Games are not high. Even DH. is not watching it and he will watch almost any sport.

I think it is an imposition on the majority of the population and a huge assumption that we are that interested. Am I being unreasonable.

I'm with the OP. I find the whole sport obsession tedious and mind numbing really. I have no interest in any of it. TdF came through our city, I wouldn't even have known unless other people told me about it. There's way too much of it on tv.

I don't like soaps or reality tv either.

YABVU. I loathe all soaps, hate daytime TV, don't especially enjoy crime dramas etc, so in effect I am a 'shafted' license payer for most of the year. The only time the BBC gives me something useful for my license fee is when things like the Olympics/commonwealth games are on. I am genuinely Shock that people can be so anti an event that is only on every few years and that has a much more positive effect in terms of inspiring sports etc than most of the drivel that is on TV day to day.

YANBU. It has been just constant. None of us like sport at all, and it has completely taken over. We've been catching up on films we've already recorded.

Those saying it's better than soaps, surely we should have more choice than just soaps, reality TV and sport?

Love it, love it, love it!

YABU. I like sports, not all of them but most. When the ones I don't like are on I do something else, I'm happy for others to enjoy it.

If your dh is a sports lover but isn't watching the games, then bully for him, plenty of people I know are glued to it.

Thank god for (ds's Netflix ) I agree though about the monopoly of the main channels with sport (any sport-if there was a shit shovelling world championship it would be on TV)

To the person who suggested there are already dedicated sports channels - well yes there are, for which you have to pay a premium for. So because I enjoy watching sport I have to pay for it?

The World Cup/Commenwealth Games are ONCE every four years. Wimbledon lasts a fortnight.

Whereas toss like Eastenders, Casualty, Holby City, Mrs Brown's Boys are on all the bloody time.

The BBC has to try and put on a wide variety of programming which of course means it will be weighted at a time when the events are on.

I'm a bit gutted that we have just moved from Sky to Virgin because we don't get Sky Atlantic anymore. I thought True Detective and Ray Donovan were brilliant.
I also think ITV drama is getting better - Broadchurch being an obvious example.

I'm not a sports fan but I don't mind. Ds quite likes the sports and there are other channels/other things to do.

I couldn't care less about the sport intruding because most of the telly is utter rubbish these days so it's just one more thing I'm not too interested in. I wish they'd bring back stuff like Play for Today and interesting drama and stop feeding us the 96th series of some crap because no one's prepared to take a risk and commission something new and interesting.
