getting annoyed at botoxed friends getting told how young they look

Yes, I probably am being unreasonable. And yes, I should remove my judgey pants from my overly clenched buttocks, BUT:

several of the mums from school who I hang out with have botox. And fillers. And liposuction and any other range of artificial beautifying processes beyond the normal hair, manis and make up. Each to their own. I would personally never do it because I worry about the safety side of things AND it feels like cheating.

What irritates me is that whenever they post pics of themselves on Facebook or even go out in real life, they always get loads of comments raving about how young they look, that they haven't aged a day since high school and that they're just getting more stunning by the minute. In contrast I look like the wrinkled crone in the corner.

It makes me want to yell: THAT BECAUSE THEY HAVE PUMPED THEIR FACES FULL OF BOTOX!!!

I'm going to guess that that would be unreasonable to do. (Doesn't mean I wouldn't love to do it. Just once).

I realise this makes me sound like a huge cow and I know that they are perfectly entitled to do what they like and feel good about themselves when people notice. I just think it's slightly unfair that those of us who don't 'cheat' get viewed as being old or having let themselves go, if we don't go the botox route. Am I being unreasonable to feel this way?

Yourkidsyourrules - I had never ever considered botox. I had never even noticed the lines on my forehead. Until one day I was out with one of the ladies who botox and she suggested I go along with her the next time she goes. I said, 'Why?' as I genuinely hadn't had an issue with how my face looked. She said: 'Well then you can get rid of these lines on your forehead' and she ran her finger over them on my face.

Is that what you mean by being 'more supportive of each other'? She pointed out something on my face which until then I'd not noticed. Now I notice them. Still doesn't make me want to inject poison into my face. And if anyone wants to do it, to make themselves feel better, they're welcome too. My point was that when they do and are complimented on how young they look, while I am now aware of my lined forehead, it irks.

Well looking younger would be nice too. But I just look like I am permanently frowning. It is not a nice look at all!

I didn't look cross but wanted the lines gone they looked a bit odd like the doctor said it didn't match the rest of my face. I look better definitely smoother and less tired even though I am tired but I think its a bit of a placebo too as it kicks in and I look better I also feel better

I don't think Botox is half as bad for women as Hollywood pubic waxing.

Toxins are surely a less severe side effect than stds?

The fact this annoys you and your attitude pretty much embodies the reason why women pit themselves against each other. If we were more supportive of each other and less critical then people wouldn't feel the need to go to such extreme lengths to 'keep up,' so to speak. It's sad really.

I feel sad that the lady feels that she needs to get botox injected into her face in the first place, but I think it's worse that you're clearly jealous and lashing out about her in this way. The companies who produce this toxic rubbish are the only 'winners.'

I think you have a point there Floiseme

Is the not wanting to look cross thing also because there is an expectation on women to look happy and serene all the time and that looking angry is somehow seen as unfeminine?

Botox-users I am not having a pop! I'm just curious as to what motivates people.

You must be steaming mad at Madonna. Oh, and Jennifer Lopez who was looking a bit older after her twins and then reappeared 3 months later looking 20 again.

I don't really believe the line about not wanting to look cross.
I think it's definitely about not wanting to look old. Wanting to look fresh faced and young.
Which is understandable, but not the same thing.

I have said this already (I probably need to go and find another thread) but what is this thing people have about looking cross? I find it very useful and no way would I want to give it up.

And romparistoberlin73 not everyone is being either defensive or judgey, in fact I would say most people aren't - we're just curious about each other. Why shouldn't we talk about it?

I would love a bit of Botox. Just on my frown lines. I look cross all the time!

Though granted, I am cross a lot of the time!

I think a little bit of Botox or whatever done well can look ok tbh.

Cheating at what?

It is annoying-I spose it's like they're cheating. Botox does start to look a bit odd after a while.

Well I personally wouldn't want a friend who thought about me like that.

Honestly I love her! she just has a thingy for younger men and I thought 'here we go again'! Sorry if it came across like a bitch Smile

They get those comments probably because most of the people they are friends with are fans of this kind of stuff and want to make sure it's reciprocated!

FWIW the couple of people I know who have botox definitely look good, but not drastically younger imho so I would take it all with a pinch of salt and find something else to stress about tbh.

They told her 36 but her mate (me) looked 27 hahahah!

You do sound very fond of this woman.

My best pal started with Botox 5 years ago, after her second lot we went out for drinks. She found a group of young men (we were 40)and demanded they tell her how old she looked. They told her 36 but her mate (me) looked 27 hahahah! Obviously hard drinking and smoking is the way to go...

I love her to bits but she's got that cross eyebrow thing going on now which is a bit scary - yes I've told her!

TMI so advanced apologies:
Aged 43 I had an accident & am now disabled in 1 leg, will always need crutches/Zimmer & a wheelchair on bad days.
Aged 44 I was diagnosed with breast cancer & had a mastectomy.

My life & my priorities have totally changed.

I couldn't give a shiny sh*t about the odd grey hair & wrinkle now!
