this is obviousely light hearted.

i saw an advert for mc cains frozen ready meal jacket potatoe... it gave me the rage the more i thought about it.

i mean why?.. seriousely why? just why?

surely you have to put it in the oven/microwave the same way you would put a normal bloody tatty in right?

are people really that easly fooled by advertising?

they cant be lazy as there doing the same amount of work by using them.. infact its costing them MORE?

do people need a box with instructions to know how to cook one?

i dont get it.

i reaally reallly dont fecking get it!

i cant be the only one.

i realize its not rational to be THIS raged when i think about it.. but i dtiabu

I only make jacket potatoes in the oven (aka properly) if its already on for a casserole/pulled pork. Or I'll have baking in there too.

They only take four minutes each in the microwave (turning after 2) when using raw potatoes because they don't need cooking from frozen.

Also I buy a few kg of potatoes for about 2-3. But we get through a lot of them (got the smaller ones boiling now for mash with dinner).

I never really liked them. The skins don't go crunchy like oven baked ones, and that's the best bit!

chica I buy grated cheese too. I see as a service to the DCs in ensuring I don't serve them grated fingers too :)

I've just enjoyed a frozen baked potato with beef in red wine stew. Yum.

solesource my daughter loves that Keith Lemon potato voice lol

They are actually not bad. Not quite as lovely as an oven cooked jacket spud, but far, far nicer than a microwaved spud. I usually have a box in the freezer at work for lunches.

Fortysomething that's funny! Can I suggest baked beans first, then cheese - has to be this way round or the cheese don't melt properly. Oh and a nice big dollop of coleslaw after right at the very top

"Surely the McCanns should be spending more time looking for their missing child, not fucking about with potatoes!"

This comment made my Sunday ha ha ha ha ha

"What can you possibly have said that was so offensive about a jacket potato?"

Posters were getting all heated on the thread because people dared buy frozen baked potatoes. I made a joke of #potatogate then started a thread asking what people's preferred toppings were for frozen spuds. I apparently breached the Coffeehouse posting etiquette for some reason. Lol They banned me for life as I also breached the swear filter Confused

Frozen jackets are usually vile and tasteless

Never tried mccains though mind, might give them à try.

Ahh i seen these! I wanna try them but i dont have a microwave so it would be pointless. Plus we hardly ever have baked potatos anyway. Its just lazy cooking tbh (coming from someone whos getting a pizza in tonight!) because they know theres a market for it. People are in such a rush that they dont have time to wait hours on something cooking.
Its funny how you can get the rage over daft things isnt it?
Mines is micro chips! My mum sometimes gets them. Half undercooked/half overcooked and thats in the same pack. Plus their all soggy too. Though i will eat them and keep my mouth shut ofcourse Wink

I don't like them in the oven. I much prefer the non crispy ones. .

A proper jacket potatoe done in the oven is very different from one just stuck on microwave, these are pre cooked and bloomin lovely. Better than micro/grill Jamie style

I love them. I lived off them in pregnancy, they were quick and easy and the only things I had a hope in hell of keeping down.

Jackets are my favourite food, but I hate them done in the microwave and oven ones take too long. The frozen ones are brilliant.

Boring potato fact, you put a metal skewer through it and cook it on the rack not on a tray it half a the cooking time :-)
Your very welcome lol

I have them at work for a cheapish lunch. A potato cooked solely in the microwave is not nice but these are much more acceptable. I don't have them at home though.

I can make a jacket in 15mins so even if I'm home late etc it's always a quick good meal for the kids!

Stick spud in mirowave for 5-7 mins while oven is heating then pop in oven for 10 mins to finish off, throw on beans and job done!

I certainly wouldn't waste my money buying then

Aldi sell the bannister's brand:www.bannistersfarm.co.uk/products/ready-baked-potatoes-retail_3/

I am not sure how much they are, but definitely less than £2. They get eaten here on a week night when we've both been at work.

I'm with TheScience on this one. Not the normal mcain ones. The kids version's 'jacket potatoe smileys'.I could seriously eat all three that come in the box! Grin. There's a Banners farm range that they do in Farmfoods which are delicious and done in olive oil. I would like to say that's my only weakness but you must try Icelands cheese and ham potatoe skins. < lets herself out of thread>
