I tried this in the shower this morning, and it worked so, so well... My hair is SO soft and shiny this morning, I'm definitely a convert!!

I have very fine hair so I'll have to give this a go tomorrow

Tony Yes, that's a good point about it getting greasy, I hadn't thought of that! My hair has to be washed daily, it gets horrendously gross if not... Wonder if this will help?

I just use conditioner as part of the curly girl method.

I only shampoo when I've been swimming and then use one with no silicotes or sulphates and my hair is in the best condition it's ever been.

Done it! It feels quite good. I have really thick hair that isn't blow dried ( it goes Whhooooff if I do!). So its finally dry and it feels good, less woolly, straighter, feels conditioned. I like this way! It must depend on hair type.

Half an hour before I wash my hair, I cover it with condition (hair is dry BTW) and put in a bun. Then I rinse off, shampoo and then condition normally...it works well.

Yay Uri glad it's worked for you as well!

It's the same process as when you use V5 hot oil conditioner. That gets used first than shampooed out & that leaves my hair shiny & gleaming white! (It is white, anyhow).

I've only ever used just shampoo.

Just shoot me now!

It's also how coconut oil works - you put it in, leave the shampoo.

If you wash your hair every day then you will need to wash your hair everyday!

It gets stripped of its natural oils and produces more each time you wash it. If you gradually cut down to twice a week max then you will not have greasy hair, as the oil production will settle down. I do mine once every 5 days, and it never gets greasy, but it was like an oil slick when I washed it daily if I missed a day.

If she gets better results from that I think she needs to change her brand.

Way back I experimented with the not washing your hair at all method. After two weeks it was really itchy and lank and I nearly gave in. However, by the end of week three it had settled down.

It used to get wet in the shower, and obviously I brushed it every day. What I didn't do was allow any chemicals near it. If I went swimming in the sea or pool, I'd rinse it very thoroughly.

I stopped when I decided I wanted to dye it, but for six months I had zero shampoo/conditioner bills.

I too have recently stopped washing every day - use a bit of dry shampoo if needed, and put hair oil on at night. My hair is so less greasy than it used to be when I washed daily but missed a day. In fact it looks better on day 2 and 3 now - wash day it's a bit unmanageable to be honest. I wash about twice a week now. The hair oil (I think it is this) has made a huge difference to the condition of my hair - less wiry, much softer.

It was wash day today. Tried the conditioner then shampoo. No appreciable difference but certainly no worse I'd say and still feels conditioned so the shampoo after hasn't washed the benefits away.

Bogey I have tried to go without shampooing when I was younger, and gave it about two weeks, and I just couldn't go any longer... I have heard that it does work if you give it long enough, but my grease-level is breached long before it gets to that point... So shampoo it is.

Joysmum I use fantastic shampoo and conditioner, and I got better results as well... not sure why you think brand matters so much? Hmm or if you're being a snob because she uses Boots brand conditioner
