AIBU?

To expect my induction on Friday to be horrific

I was 7 days overdue with my 2nd baby on Sunday. My 1st baby was 12 days overdue, went into labour naturally, back to back, ventouse, traumatic delivery etc. etc. I went to the hospital today for a sweep but it could not be done as my cervix was posterior. I have polyhydramnias (too much fluid) with this pregnancy so baby has only just dropped head down into my pelvis after being breech throughout.

I have been talking into getting booked in for an induction on Friday at 12 days only. I am petrified as I have never known anyone who has had a good induction - all have tales of days in hospital, excruciating pain and often a c section anyway.

I am starting to think I should just kick up a fuss and try to just go straight for a c section even though it's not something I would want.

I had an epidural with my 1st baby and cannot image going though all the interventions I did without one so am really scared of having to have painful procedures without adequate pain relief. I even find vaginal exams excruciating when in labour.

Any advice? I cannot sleep due to this worry. I just want it all to be over now.

I have been induced 3 times, twice because I was so overdue and once because the was a problem.

The first was like your first, long drawn out, back to back, painful traumatic.

The second was quick and low pain, and I didn't have any pain relief.
The third was like greased lightning - not in labour, mw broke my waters, baby born 1.5 hours later. It was very straightforward and only more painful because she was 10lbs 7oz.

Inductions don't have to be a nightmare, mine were fine.

Congratulations both! I hope the settling problems are short-lived.

If you need some help with feeding, the Analytical Armadillo is the best (helped me get my preemie out of SCBU ebf after 3 weeks).

Congratulations! The baby and toddler juggling can be bonkers, i survived it with the aid of a lot of caffeine. Grin

Glad the induction went ok. Hope you're doing alright with the sleepless nights and all.

I was induced with dc1 at 34 weeks, and it wasn't too bad although I've got nothing to compare it with as dc2 ended up being a cs. TBH, I was expecting it to be worse than it was because head wasn't engaged etc.

Whole thing took 25 hours, I had gas and air but no epidural. The pushing stage was hard, 95 minutes, but I don't think that was anything to do with being induced.

Hi everyone!! Thanks for all your good wishes. Sorry for the delay but we are only out of hospital today. Induction really wasn't that bad, although i did have complications. Went in at midday and had my own room where my husband could stay for the whole time. Pessary inserted at 1pm. Was in agony by about 3pm, found out I was 5cm! Rushed to labour ward where I had an epidural as I was having too many contractions which was distressing the baby. It didn't slow things enough so I was given an injection. However, this made my heart rate too high as well and I spent the next 3 hours shaking uncontrollably. Meanwhile baby's heart rate was too high then dipping too low with each contraction. I was on verge of a c section when they made a last ditch attempt with forceps and baby was born on 1st March at 1.25am. So glad it's all over and he is gorgeous.

Still in a lot of pain from stitches and spd. Also having breast feeding problems hence my stay in hospital until today. Baby blues has hit today and my husband and I are finding having a 2 year old and a newborn impossibly challenging at the moment, particularly as baby does not sleep a wink at night and feeds constantly......maybe that's another thread!

Thank you so much for all your support though this. Mumsnet is brilliant!! Xx

I had similar worries when I was to be induced due to gestational diabetes. I had gone into labour naturally with both DS and had had fairly easy births. I had never heard positive stories following induction however DD was born after 1 minute of pushing and maybe 3 really bad contractions where mw first gave me gas. The other contractions were bare able without gas and air. I know this May not be everyone's experience but just wanted to give you a positive story. Good luck.

She arrived! Hooray that's over with ;)

Gel in at 1pm. Mild but regular contractions kicked in after just ten mins. 5cm dilated when I asked then to check at 7 pm. Labour progressed fast as she was then born at 9.44pm

Had gas and air which worked a treat compared to my sons birth. every time I went to ask for some pethidine or what not, another contraction came on! Def no time for epidural.

However, I PPH'ed. Litre and a half lost. Narrowly avoided blood transfusion. Am well and healthy, and very thankful I had such a vigilant medical team who had me sorted in no time.

I really hope Mrs SB is well and already cuddling her lovely bundle. Hope she comes and updates us

And saggy good luck for your induction next week. I am def adding my induction experience to the positive pile. Keep posting.

Xx
