Today we watched Peppe pig for the 1st time.

The story line went like this;

Peppa and george were jumping in puddles.
Daddy pig's football shirt got muddy.
Mummy washed the shirt, Peppa put her red dress in with the shrt.
The shirk came out PINK!
Daddy pig came home, Mummy pig said she needed to talk to him, Daddy pig said he didn't have time as he was going out to play football Hmm
Daddy pig saw the pink football shirt, he said that must be one of Mummy's dresses because it was pink.
Peppa said there is nothing wrong with pink.
Daddy said pink wasn't a good colour for a football shirt, daddy pig asked george if pink was a nice colour, george said "yuk"
Daddy pig desides to go and play football in his white work shirt dispite having a perfectly good football shirt that just happened to be pink
No doubt Mummy pig had to deal with washing the mud out of the work shirt.

Aibu to be shocked by this gender sterotyping?

I have a 1 year old ds, he has pink clothes (and blue and yellow and purple and green) he plays with dolls, he has fairy wings, he also has cars and farm animals and balls.

I don't want ds to think that only dresses come in pink and boys should think that pink is yuk.

I live in a country where gender sterotypes not as common as in the UK so my opinion is maybe skewed.

Just a side point, people are often complaining about the sexist way in which Daddy Pig is portrayed. The show has 5 directors. All of whom are male. And 7 writers, 5 of whom are male... I wonder what this says about patriarchy?

Peppa Pig is a vile brat. Switch to Ben and Holly, its far more entertaining.

Would you go out wearing a shirt that's been discoloured in the wash? I know I wouldn't.

Can't stand the program.. I REALLY want an episode made where they are made into a pile of bacon sarnies.

But they Ican't take anything seriously that obviously started out as a drawing of a dick and balls.

SoftlySoftly, I'm waiting for the episode where Mummy Pig is put on trial for burying Daddy Pig under the patio. Probably on the advice of MNers.

It requires some investment to get the best out of it as there are running jokes (eg Miss Rabbit does every job on earth) and is quite drily witty really.

I love Daddy Pig. Wish I'd had a dad like him (slightly less porcine obvs)

YABU

Had you picked up on mummy pigs secret hatred of daddy pig however...

"Oh poor daddy pig we forgot you in the rain"

"Oh daddy pig did you hurt yourself?"

Mmmbacon lol,
Ds favorite episode is where mr bull digs up the road, twice in one episode, on the way to the park and back,

My favorite is when daddy pig tries to hang a picture but instead knocks a huge hole in the wall,

Reminds me of dh, who lovingly isn't trusted to dig a hole in the garden, inept doesn't even begin lol,

Peppa Pig is vile. It's sexist, sizeist (the password is "Daddy's big tummy" - fuck off, Peppa) encourages brat like behavior and all around annoying occurrences.

I fucking hate Peppa Pig.

I want to turn her into a bacon sandwich.

The issue is just how insidious the messages are in these cartoons.

I really didn't like my two watching PP - dad always seems to come off badly - too fat, too inept, boring job ... And mummy pig is such a bloody know all and interfering, meddling in-laws.

It is perhaps funny from an adult perspective, but certainly isn't the happy families or the attitudes that I would want my preschoolers to get.

I dd stopped watching peppa pig due to the constant portrayal of daddy pig as a total idiot

One memorable episode....

'Has anyone seen my glarrrses?'
'Yes daddy pig, they're on your head you bloody idiot'

Disclaimer -words may have been changed slightly to prove my point

What are you on about! Mummy pig is hard as nails! Not only can she hang a picture way better than daddy pig, but she beat all the blokes on the high striker at the fair!

I don't really think you are like the awful irene ikea she is a character in the 44 scotland st novels by Alexander McCall Smith who goes way too far in hothousing her bright 7 year old son Bertie and forcing him to have a pink bedroom which he hates.

Yabu. You must try some other episodes - peppa pig is not a sexist cartoon at all.

You didn't pay attention.

He wears his workshirt because the teams colour is white. Not because the football shirt is pink and men can't wear pink or something.

While I fully support women's rights (cos, like I'm a woman!) I do find it a little bit disturbing sometimes that in some TV shows/adverts etc men are seen as completely inept and the women smug. I have 2 DDs and they see their parents do both housework and go out to work...although it is a well know fact that I'm rubbish at ironing whilst DH is brilliant...but he can't cook to save his life and I'm pretty damn good!!

I actually saw this one - I thought it was quite impressive that daddy pig did the laundry before going to work whilst mummy pig and the kids jumped in muddy puddles with scant regard for daddy pig's hard work with the clean washing.

And I thought daddy pig was quite cheerful about the whole sorry incident.

misses point

YABU (but only a bit)

Daddy pig is a very modern pig. He goes to work then comes home and does his share of the housework while mummy pig is on mumsnet.

Mummy also calls him fat alot too. Which is what pushed daddy into having an affair with me.
