AIBU?

irritated by FB statuses...

I absolutely know I'm being unreasonable but...

On my news feed today was:

2 pregnancy announcements
3 engagements
Far too many 'oh I'm such a lucky girl look what my boyfriend/man/hubby bought me' and accompanying photos
And loads and loads of 'what an amazing Xmas with all our family and friends'

I'm sure I should think 'oh how lovely' but having spent Xmas at home with me and DC (no other family) and not having anyone to buy me flashy presents, I'm just a bit Envy I guess...

I don't think i would miss it that much if it not for my Mum being on and we chat and i shre the pics of kids with her.

But then again I am on a lot chatting to other Open Uni students, it's an easier platform to use than OU one, so it's busier and is a very supportive environment. As a distance learner the social contact is good too. We share a lot of stuff during revision time, otherwise we are bound by OU social networking guidelines.

I deactivated my FB 6-7 weeks ago, best thing I've done since having DD!

It's a horrible tool and I do not miss knowing what others are doing ha

Holla not exactly, but thanks for remembering! Tiles were ordered, but have still not arrived...I had loads of other stuff on before Xmas, so gave up on the idea of getting it done for then! Luckily we have another bathroom in the meantime. Going to focus on it again in the New Year and hopefully get it sorted :)

Oops, triple post.

THAT'S how much I want to know about the bathroom!

VelvetSpoon this is completely off topic but did you get your bathroom sorted? Have been wondering because I have no life

I don't have children (not entirely through choice) but I absolutely loved seeing all the photos on Christmas morning of my friends' kids all excited over Santa having been etc.

I did commit a mortal sin tho and put a picture on fb of the Lego and Bathing Bad salts I got. Not really boasting, but I enjoy fun presents abd a lot of my friends appreciate fun things. I'm not a material person really, as my friends know full well!!!

Im on fb because only about 5% of people on it behave in this embarrassing way. I dont want to fuck off and miss out because a couple of people are insecure and too concerned with what others think &/or too materialistic or whatever.
Ashamedoverthinker, you say "nice" to publicly acknowledge your husbamd's good deeds, i say, ask yourself why it's "nice" that everybody knows he did this good deed for you?
Is your ego inflated by association?
Do you care more or equally about appearing to be loved as you do about being loved?
Does being loved give you a higher status amongs your circle?
Is being loved crucial to your identity?

Not trying to b a dick, but your desire to publicly thank your HUSBAND for a good deed is interesting. Or text book.

Of course but it's nice to publicly acknowledge someones good deeds.

If so many people dont want to know what is going on in other peoples live why the fuck are they on FB just leave it then, leave.

Thanking your own husband on fb!!!!

Do you not get the opportunity to thank him to his face!? Does it mean more to him if every body knows?
Agree with mistressdeecee

I thanked DH for something did for me on FB that I like - is this classed as flashy?

I dont get why people mona about FB - if you were to meet up with friends or bump into people post xmas its uite common to share what presents people got. Does it matter if it is done face to face or via FB - but obviously youhave the option to avoid etiher.

If seeing someone else have something that I didnt even want or need makes me feel uncomfortable I try to figure out why. Jealousy is an awful feeling. I think when you see other peoples stuff/choices it can make you question your own and a bit of self doubt can creep in.

We put pics of kids on opening presents for family - our family live 200 miles away. Some people like us use FB to share family occasions with relatives that cant be there so in this respect YABU

I suppose if I was enjoying myself more I'd object less!

Oh well, another day of barely seeing the DC and not speaking to anyone. Will steer clear of FB though!

We've had a lovely family Christmas, no diamonds etc but it has been absolutely perfect just me DH and our DS. 2 friends have got engaged, one is pregnant and lots of friends have been given extremely lovely presents, all of which I've seen on Facebook and I am over the moon for them all, they are my friends and it's great to see them happy.

I think it's nice to see people happy and enjoying themselves, makes me smile after I get over the pang of jealousy. The jealousy is my problem not theirs.

I find FB ridiculous to be honest, and Im on there less and less. I did see some of the flashy Christmas posts..people who have a great need to show off to maximum effect are just bores. No, I didnt put up pics of my Christmas breakfast, or dinner, or presents. In the midst of a nice Christmas day Ive got no time or inclination for "look at me look at me look at me". In fact, not at any time. & I do spare a thought that this time of year isnt pleasant for everybody, for various reasons. So thats another reason for not being boastful. FB has released the "I MUST HAVE MY 15 MINUTES OF FAME/IM A LEGEND IN MY OWN LUNCHTIME" in so many people. Its naff.

As I said to my daughter last night...IF their Christmas was THAT amazing...would they be sat on F/B uploading pics etc??? or would they be too engrossed with having a FABULOUS time??? Hmm

KingRollo I could have written that post, have had a tough year, I'm still struggling and the jolly December fb statuses were getting me down, my problem I know, so I bowed out last week and will log back in after new year. I'm missing family photos but feel less wound up/envious now I'm out of the loop. Good luck for a better 2014 all :)

I'm with you. Two of my friends just got engaged to each other, I had a previous post here about said friend's artist mates being dicks to her on her birthday, and seeing them get all squealy over her good news is making me want to punch the laptop screen. When they do get married they'll probably get an influx of crappy, self-indulgent sketches as wedding presents, if they get anything at all.
