What if they had GCSE but then an open university degree in engineering ? Say

very unlikely to be accepted on an engineering degree, let alone cope on one, with only a C in GCSE maths, I would imagine.

You couldn't cope on an engineering degree with poor maths, unless you got that C because you were pissed/ill during the exams, I'm an engineer.

This is not just a teacher without a PGCE or without a degree in the subject that they are teaching, they may not have any degree, any A Levels and a Grade C in maths.

I am so angry about this, so angry in fact that I am neglecting my own marking so that I can have a rant.

I agree with you Phil. This is just just disgusting. And yet posted proudly on an open job site with the school's name emblazoned all over the advert. Who thought this was even acceptable?

I would worry for the bottom set maths kids at this school.

So I could do this even though I took GCSE maths 6 times before I got a C?!!! Already I can barely cope with my DDs yr 3 homework!!!

The ideal candidate will have GCSE Maths.

How can they even say that with a straight face?

This is the advert, I hope it is not another one, they want two unqualified teachers as soon as possible

If my children were at the South Leeds Academy I would be contacting the press, my MP, OFSTED, LEA and I would be outside protesting every morning. We need to be angry about this, or it will continue.

Its truly terrible , that the kids who need the best Teachers end up with the worst. Dept of Education Performance Tables South Leeds academy:

FSM =42.4%
GCSE 5A*t C = 33%

But academies are supposed to have loads of money to attract high quality and experienced staff.

I don't see why we should not name the school, they have a public advert. in fact I would like to see the headteacher or chair of the academy team on here justifying that advert.

If its an Advert, why can't you name the school?

The school in question is "Inadequate", and just this side of special measures. Hilariously, from its last Ofsted:

"Too few students make the progress they should in English and mathematics by the end of Year 11. Gaps between the achievement of different groups of students are not decreasing quickly enough. Overall, achievement is inadequate."

I wonder if they're planning on employing them alongside qualified maths teachers. Like a specialised TA? Trying to raise standards so the TA can help anyone who's struggling in class while the teacher focuses on the class??

My brother is a maths specialist TA, no degree and no QTS.

I wonder if a 17 year old school leaver with 5 GCSEs, might decide to take the job rather than take their a Levels.
