AIBU?

To think there's nothing wrong with all the Facebook "look at all these xmas presents" photos

As Christmas dawns I'm reminded of numerous AIBU threads whereby people moan about folk that post photos on FB showing all the xmas gifts they've bought for their kids.

Personally, I love it when people post these photos. I'm a self-confessed shopaholic and love having a good gander at the photos to get ideas for what to look for in the January sales. I'm also a nosy cow.

Am I in the minority? Do most people hate these photos?

*I don't FB on Xmas day at all - I go on Christmas Eve when I'm sat, alone, glass of wine in hand, DD in bed (and DS this year - squeeeeeeee! 9 mo at Xmas, far too exciting)

I suppose that's one reason why I enjoy putting it on FB as I am able to share the excitement. Otherwise it's just me looking at the dog and asking her "so, pretty cool eh?" Grin

Well when you start making fun of people for having a different opinion than you, you cant really be surprised that they dont high five you. I didnt poke fun at you. I asked why you did what you do. Why did you start questioning my religion because i pointed out that i was the person who put the presents under my tree? You can dislike my opinion and your free to express that but just because you disagree doesnt mean i have a pole shoved up my ass ( vile expression btw)

Oh get down off your highhorse.

I wasn't making fun of you. I mistakenly thought we were having idle chat.

You are obviously reading more into my comments than I ever intended.

And i agree its people's own business but this is a thread on a public forum that invited discussion on the topic. We are all familiar with how MN works so dont be surprised if when you post something, someone comments on it.

Not really digging the whole "she's Jewish because she doesn't believe in Santa" thing someone seems to have going on here but whatever.

I don't like the pictures. As someone said up thread I find it boastful & vulgar. Just like I cringe when people upload pictures of their valentines gifts or post statuses documenting every part of their "super awesome amazing" day with "the best hubby in the world". Just feels so competitive & insensitive, like it's being done to make others jealous sometimes. I appreciate not everyone is like that, but Facebook brings out the worse in people.

You are spoiling for a fight. Bad day? Me too, shittest of days.

Come here for idle chat.

I shall think of you fondly on Xmas Eve.

Oh dear me, I really did not mean to diss the entire Jewish community by that one throw away comment.

Christmas isn't a Jewish celebration that's all I was inferring.

It. Was. A. Joke. (and a really crap one at that)

Im really not spoiling for a fight. I asked you a question about why you do on xmas eve. Asking why you did it. You then started talking about me with another poster. Referring to me as 'she' and questioning my religion because i asked you to explain why you did what you did. I dont know why you had that response to my question.

Foot prints = cut out a foot print in 2 parts like a boot print template and sprinkle fake snow bits (screwed up paper stuff). I'm not a Christmas fanatic and it takes no time at all but the DC LOVE it. Especially as we don't have a chimney so I say FC was naughty and didn't wipe his feet when he left the north pole. Causes much hilarity I admit they are an easy bunch to amuse

It wasnt clear to me why people were playing santa to other adults. The dcs, yes obviously. But i dont get why people do it on fb.

I shall save that one for DS in a few years.

I know a woman who is a bit obsessed with material possessions. She posted her Christmas mountain of presents, a slightly smaller mountain for Christmas Eve, another mountain for her birthday a few days earlier and a Christmas book tree with just piles of books underneath. Every gift bought, wrapped and labelled by her, with an equal number for her daughter and herself. The weirdest and saddest part is that they are bankrupt and she is divorced from her long suffering husband, and living in a crappy trailer with no heating and squalid conditions. The kid has no space to use her hundreds of new toys. Just the strangest situation.

I am more appreciative of my FB friends now! I have one friend who does this and I love it. I love Christmas and giving presents and eating heaps. I love seeing the mounds of presents under the Christmas tree and I love seeing all the presents under everyone else's trees on FB too. It makes me feel happy. I have one friend who photos the while thing from presents laid out to them wrapped up an I love it. She has six kids so present wrapping is a mammoth operation!

I don't go with the whole Father Christmas thing. It isn't fair on the people who give the gifts (if Aunty X has gone to the effort then they get the credit ).
