To wish Bruce Forsyth could be humanely dispatched

In fact, not bothered about the humane bit.

He is beyond embarrassing on Strictly with his forced, stilted jokes which aren't even funny.

He is well past his sell by date.

Does anyone actually like him?

Why does he keep getting the gig?

The thing is that. year after year, on discussion forums all over the place the majority of commenters sat that they loathe him, he ruins Strictly, they mute him or fast forward over his bits, and they love it when he isn't on. So why the hell does the BBC keep renewing his contract? The people who actually like him must be in an ever diminishing minority, and the programme could only be improved by getting rid.

Maybe everyone on here should write a complaint to the Beeb and see what happens?

GalaxyDefender · 13/10/2013 14:01

Bruce was the cause of my one and only ever complaint to the BBC, and it was after that I put the "Brucie Buffer" in place Grin

Can't recall exactly what he said now (it was about three/four years ago) but I was horrified that he'd gotten away with making pervy sexual remarks about one of the younger female celebrities.
Then there was the business with McFly when Harry won.
And that's without the weekly dose - I feel so sorry for poor Tess having to make up for the slowness and mistakes of a man who pretty openly slimes all over her every week. I certainly wouldn't be able to do it!

I'm not mad on Anton, but those who know him in RL say he's a really nice bloke

I'm struggling to imagine how someone who's used the words he has and expressed the sentiments he has can be a really nice bloke. He's bloody rude on the show as well. The way he talks over Tess is really irritating: all "me, me, me."

I am laughing at 'The Daly beast' and the "gurning, juddering old shit".

I imagine Brucie being quite horrible in RL, a cross between an overbearing uncle who gropes your arse after a snifter and a wanker P.E teacher who bullies you to do the bloody hurdles in the rain. Piss off.

He might be lovely though never met the guy.

Um. SCD. Strictly Come Dancing

Who's S.C.D?. I'm not a fan of strictly come dancing. xx

I think you might be right elephant.

lifehas I would like to avoid watching him but I like SCD apart from him.

If he could be potted off somewhere else, the show would be so much better for it.

Graham and Claudia would be my choice. Not a fan of Tess although I think she did a sterling job presenting last weekend and definitely seemed more relaxed without Bruce there. I've been to the live filming and she's v v professional. Bruce has someone with him the whole time to keep him on track.

If you don't like him don't watch him, no-one forces you to do they. I can take or leave him to be honest x

Graham Norton? Does SCD need another element of camp?

I don't think people who remember the 70s are fond of Bruce at all. As the other posters have said, I knew he was horrid whenever my parents were foolish or distracted enough to have the Generation Game on.

I think it's down to a) the stupid argument that lots of people love Strictly, ergo they love Bruce (try putting a Bruceless SCD in competition with " The Brucie Show" and see what wins that ratings battle) and b) the "legeeeend!" mentality that someone who is a recognisable, usually older, bloke is by default absolutely wonderful and shows are lucky to get him.

The majority consensus is definately that he is an embarrassing, incompetent idiot, so back to my original question- why does he keep getting the gig?

I knew he was a sexist dinosaur when I was young and he was on the Generation Game. All that "give us a twirl" guff used to make me cringe even then.
I have never watched anything he had been in since.
I don't think I've missed out Smile

I've always loathed him right back to Sunday Night at the London Palladium.

I'd watch strictly if he wasn't on it.

I've never been a Bruce fan but he has got worse over the last few series. Time to go now, Bruce!

Report
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/10/2013 10:04

I made it through one series and then gave up watching because of him, can't even bear to see his gruesome face while fastforwarding.

As someone else said, he's top of my hotlist of "Most likely to get a knock at the door from Operation Yewtree." He strikes me as a sexist, pervy twat and it doesn't surprise me for one millisecond that Tess freezes up around him, she's probably itching to slap his hands away.

I remember once asking my dad why some old people were so rude - he wisely pointed out that rude young people grow into rude old people. It's nothing to do with his age, in fact to imply that being an unfunny, irritating, leering, incompetent knobhead is an inevitable result of being old is incredibly insulting to all the brilliant old people out there.

I'm not mad on Anton, but those who know him in RL say he's a really nice bloke. Whereas those who know Bruce in RL say he behaves as he does on screen - i.e. rude and arrogant - but without the stupid "jokes" which are obviously written by someone else anyway. So I don't mind if Anton gets the gig.

Hes always been crap. Its like there was a core of arrogant cringey presenters in the 70's who hosted every light entertainment program around. (Bob Monkhouse, bruce,Jimmy Saville. and they continue to be chosen for no other reason than they always have been.
Bruce has always been cringey, has terrible comic timing, talks over guests and paws his female co hosts. Hes the Uncle knobhead at the family wedding.

he has had a long and varied career and he is multi talented

On what planet?

He has been telling the same jokes in the same over rehearsed style for as long as I can remember.

I think he has some dirt on someone, it's the only way I can see him still being employed.

At least he is no longer in the ad breaks

Sneets · 13/10/2013 07:17

Oh bless him. He's a national treasure. Just think when he goes we could get an extra days holiday, when we get 'Brucey Day'. You'd put on your paper £1 Bruce mask, your favourite animal on your head, and tell cheesy one liners to earn money for charity. Marvellous!
