To absolutely fucking hate this new 'digital' world?

..every day, there just seems to be some new fangled gadget that I need to use, that I just Do. Not. Understand!

I'm only 37, but I'm beginning to feel like a blinking pensioner who can't keep up with the times! no, actually, scrap that- my Dad is far better at this stuff than me

Recently, we got a new lap top. It has made my life 10 X more stressful, as I cannot find the things that I need!

For example, on the old one I had my I tunes on the desktop. Tonight, I fancy going for a jog, and thought 'ooh, I'll just get my I pod sorted'. But nay, of course it's not that simple- I cannot find said I tunes on the laptop. I have no idea why. I mean, really no idea.

This kind of thing happens on a daily basis. I just learn how to use something, feel pleased with myself, and then it changes and I don't understand what to do!

It really stresses me out. Is there any hope for me, or should I just join an Amish community and be done with it?

We live in an Apple household. Whilst I love all the benefits it brings in terms of my favourite hobby (sitting on arse watching tv) I would be lost without geeky DH. When we first moved in I could barely turn the TV on and old not work out what remote to use, like an old lady ;)

MTS - I may well be technologically challenged but all I want a laptop to do is create documents and email them. I really should not need to go on a sodding course or read a book to do that - I've been very competent at doing it for many years. Until windows bloody 8M

I was just thinking the same thing this morning & I work in IT!
What I currently resent are the millions of different logins & passwords I am required to have & companies now expecting you to upload your paperwork to their sites, so assuming you have access to or own a printer/scanner, but getting them to send you your access code (well, another login & password) is like getting blood out of a stone.
I particularly hate authorities that insist you submit stuff online where their application totally messes up your pc to the extent of having to restore factory settings, but who refuse to communicate with you via e-mail.
I am also very anti all the personal tracking that goes on, including iAds. I am happy to have the option to opt in, but think it is a liberty that I need to "try" and opt out. Same applies to all the newsletters I have allegedly signed up for.
And finally companies who are happy enough for you to buy their stuff online, but do not send you tracking details for goods shipped & get all surprised 2 or 3 weeks later when you contact them to ask where the goods are!

I'm twenty-five, so I'm supposed to be of "the generation" and love all this gadgetry. But I hate most new tech short of console/gaming upgrades. It all seems rather pointless and "look at my shiny object!" to me.

Smartphone? No thanks. If I want to use the internet, I'll use my computer, with my proper keyboard and screen I don't have to crick my neck to use.
Touchscreens? Keep them away from me. How people can deal with the sensation of drawing their finger across the screen I don't know, it makes my skin crawl.
Windows 8? Hell no, I don't want Microsoft's piece-of-shit aimed-at-tablet-users OS. But then, Microsoft OSs tend to go one good, one bad, so hopefully Windows 9/whatever they call it will be good.

I love new bits of technology. People get frustrated when they think they can magically know how to use it without putting any time into it.

There are loads of short tutorials online to teach you anything you could possibly want to know. You just have to invest a little effort.

My DH won't spend a couple of minutes learning how to use our Mac's mouse. It's hilarious.

What really gets me are people that have paid a lot of money for a smart phone but who are unable to use most of its functions. For example, why on earth would you pay extra to get the IPhone 4S rather than the IPhone 4 if you are not even going to use Siri (yes I know there are other advantages but you get my point)

What would be lovely would be to have a DC or DP who was a tech wizard.

So my advice is to try and embrace the new tech

I had the same feeling when we got our new laptop with windows 8, but I'm pretty used to it now. There are still huge swathes of it I don't use (I'm not an apps person generally anyway though) but I 'get' it now

Still not really sure I get the homepage/desktop thing though. I always flick straight to the desktop anyway...

Well, at least it's not just me then!

PP who said 'it's all like look at my shiny new thing'- yes- exactly that! And the thing is I just don't care about 'shiny new things'!

All I want to be able to do is conduct my life how I want to conduct it- without making 'keeping up with technology' a prerequisite to carrying out bog standard life tasks! I can find plenty of other stuff to fill my time with without being forced to take up 'technology' as an additional bleeding hobby!

We also have the sodding Windows 8. I swear, my blood pressure has gone through the roof.
