Even the ones you hate?

It is so vile and, I believe, the ultimate women-hating word.

I've done a quick search and its been used on here nearly 400 times this week.

Pretty please Thanks

Even when slut is used in the way holly described its horrible. Its just one of those words that should be left well alone.

( may have mega issues with that one due to abusive parent having it used in that context as there all time fav insult, usually said loudly in public in front of people who did not know it has two meanings thus leading to my sexual conduct constantly being questioned people thinking they could take liberties with me and just general unpleasantness up until I refused to stay in contact with anybody i Knew as a child)

Slut is one of my favourite words, aptly describing someone who is dirty or slovenly. I like slattern as well. They are the sort of words that just roll off the tongue about someone poor standards of cleanliness and sending unkempt children out.

I like Ye Olde Enlish words though. Rapscallion is a good one Grin

I rarely, rarely use it but have done so in regard to one particular person IRL - but she was really horrid.

I never normally use it as I hate it.

I agree that when bitch is used about a man, it's used to question his inherent and masculine goodness and therefore is still slating women generally as well as the man in question.

Even my own df used the word bitch about women who's driving he disn't like - until I went into a rant with him about it! Grin

We need better gender-neutral words!

I just say 'cow' mostly. I don't think I call other women bitches or c... can't bring myself to type it.

Actually, thinking about it, when I really want to be venomous to someone I do use that c word. I wonder why I manage to forget that? I've never said it to a woman though, only my boyfriend.

Yes but why bitch a word of female origin? The trait you are describing might be present in men or women but the point is that it is perceived as a negative female characteristic.

When someone, female or male, is being a bitch, I will tell them to stop being a bitch. I don't use the word that often. When someone is being a bitchy but they're also too thick to realise it, I will call them a dick. Again, female or male, and I seem to use this one a bit more.

I've only called someone a cunt once, and she had rammed a shopping trolley into my very obvious 34wk bump.

I use those words when they convey the meaning I want.

babiesinslingsgetcoveredinfood · 10/02/2013 07:07

I use it, a fair bit, not loads. Don't use cunt much, when I do (once a year?) I'm REALLY angry.

But I see the point that it is generally used to describe women or particularly effeminate gay men. People MAY use it to describe men, but only when they are describing traits which are commonly seen as feminine ( although IME at work, men gossip way more).

So I thought Y were BU but I've changed my mind, YANBU & I will try to be more imaginative with my vile insults.

"By calling someone a cunt you are saying they are nothing more than a womans vagina. Well i dont think there is anything bad about womens vaginas so why use one as an insult? "

Loads of slang words for genitalia are used as insults though - dick, cock, bellend, and then bollocks to indicate disbelief/displeasure.

I don't say bitch either, or slag or slut. I don't like them, I think they're woman-hating words. But I do say cunt from time to time when the situation demands!

Oh I hate the word bitch, it makes me angry and I'm not sure why. I never use it, my Mum would never let us use it even now! I don't use slut, slutty, slag, she literally would have slapped the legs of us had she heard it.

Whereas cunt doesn't bother me at all (maybe its a regional thing). I use cunt to describe lots of things as in cunting car wouoldn't start etc. I also use dick a lot for both men and women.

PS CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNTING CUNT

Report
EuroShopperEnergyDrink · 10/02/2013 02:34

Cunt is not a woman hating word.

It's a slang term for a vagine that has been corrupted by years of feminine shame and a need for women to be much more demure than men- god forbid we talk about ladybits!

Stop buying into this and being shocked- there's nothing bloody wrong with it.

Bitch on the other hand has venom.
I much prefer cunt to bitch.

Bah never bothers me when I get called a bitch because its a very uninventive insult, shows a distinct lack of imagination.

I don't know but I'm sure its not a word I every really use myself,I can't think of any occasion when I've used it, but I do use the word cunt loads and I did use the word bollocks earlier but it got deleted because apparently telling someone they are talking bollocks is a personal attack.

I think I just don't like the way saying the word bitch feels in my mouth but the other words feel better when I say them. Like when you say cucumber it feels nice but saying turnips doesn't.

Well I know what I mean anyway.

I can think of plenty of words that are worse tbh.

If someone is being a bitch, then they are. Why call them something else

Everyone's entitled to their favourite words.

I don't use bitch, slag, or slut. But I enjoy the Anglo-Saxon expressiveness of cunt. It can be almost affectionate (certainly in Scotland, where I've lived), like bugger or sod in the north of England. And I like demystifying it as the ultimate taboo word, because why should it be the worst thing you can think of? That said, I don't like men using it towards women, because it's still hate-filled in that context. It's a bit like the N word as used by white people in that way: inappropriate because it's not theirs to reclaim.

With regard to the word "bitch" being used for men as well - to me, when someone calls a man a bitch, it seems like they have chosen that word because they want to be extra offensive by implying that not only is that man nasty, he's a particularly female kind of nasty, which is somehow worse. I think a man would be more offended if you called him a bitch than by, say, "bastard". So to me it still backs up the female=bad misogynist thing. Does anyone else interpret it this way?

i think the word bitch is much more misogynist than cunt.

Some women are bitches. Everybody knows what the word means. So I don't think there is anything wrong with it. It's not a nice word for not a nice woman. Of which there are unfortunately a few. Like somebody having an affair with their best friend's husband and denying it. What other word could be used.

Report
SaladIsMyFriend · 09/02/2013 17:45

YANBU to ask, but I don't mind being called a bitch - it usually means I have stood my ground over something and pissed someone who is not very nice anyway off. I have been called a bitch to my face by a man and took it as a compliment.

I think slag/slut etc. are much worse.
