YABU I lost any baby weight within days without trying. After DD1 I had a blood transfusion and ate like a horse. I know. Annoying.

I lost the weight from my second child straight away. I didn't actually gain any weight.

Shame I've still got the fatness from my first child 11 years ago. Blush

It's not the weight from my 2nd that is the issue it's the fact that the aforementioned fat had some tone to it.

Now it does not.

Waaaaah!

YABU...

I was always very sceptical of these celebs that get back to ore-pregnancy weight within weeks, especially as it took me nearly 2 years after DS was born. Mind you I was rather addicted to cake throughout that pregnancy. But with dd I put on a lot less weight and without even trying I lost it all within 6 weeks, so yes it does happen - and I wasn't even running about as I had a c-section.

I lost all my baby weight with dd2 in two weeks but am supposed to feel guilty about this as so many woma don't lose weight they ha ve piled on when pg

It isn't my fault, I didn't put any extra. Weight on and so there wasn't much to getting back in my jeans, with dd1 it took longer as I put on an extra half stone

As many people have said, for some people it does just drop off. I think it's a shame for celebrities for whom this happens to feel they need to justify it. It's a myth that it always takes ages to lose the baby weight. It can of course and it's not uncommon for women to not be able to lose the last 1/2 stone or so until they stop BF (despite not having tried to lose the rest), but for others, especially for those who really only put on baby + placenta + fluid, they really can be back to their regular weight in no time at all.

I lost the weight really quickly.

I was just lucky. I have other friends who barely lost any whilst they were BF but lost a lot when they stopped. Others who found they kept weight on much more easily after having children.

TBH I find some of the attitudes on this thread quite judgmental. I certainly didn't eat a fantastic diet when my babies were small, I'm not sure many mums do. And I think the constant photos of celebs in skintight outfits hours after giving birth are harmful to women at a very vulnerable point in their lives. Having children changes your body. I think we need to recognise that and stop seeing a return to pre pregnancy shape as a badge of honour.

You have to remember as well that the tabloids are nasty bastards

And what with social media too and people using it to take a public swipe at celebs, some of them probably live in fear of not losing the weight...or even gaining any in the first place.

It would be bad enough to have a friend take a photo of you post birth and put it on FB without your permission...but can you just imagine seeing it on the front page of a newspaper in all its glory?

Or 1000's of Tweets about how shit you look?

I think that's partly why they want to lose it so quickly...that and the fact that they're often very trim and toned to begin with so perhaps don't gain too much anyway.

I lost the pg weight in my first pregnancy within a week or so, but I put that down to having a strict diet to try and control gestational diabetes in the 3rd trimester. It wasn't fun, I found it quite hard to be so strict, and I do think I'd have over eaten otherwise. I guess the celebs stick to a strict diet during pregnancy so they just don't put the weight on in the first place.

Cor! Lots of smug mummies out there

It's down to LUCK and GENES

And how much you like cake

But seriously, I put of 5 stone with number 1 which I lost and 4 stone with number two. A year and a bit later i m still a crucial 4lbs heavier than I was. I had to work really bloody hard at losing the weight after number two because I work f/t (I am self employed so had no mat leave) and combined w two kids that meant limited time for walks and exercise.

I am contemplating number 3 but can't be arsed with the weight issues again! I am a csection mummy and exercise a lot

YABU. I came out of hospital in size 10s both times. I just don't hold on to weight. I didn't do anything. In fact i am spectacularly lazy and against any form of exercise that doesn't involve sitting on a horse.

I lost my tummy relatively quickly after DS, think by 8 weeks I was in my jeans, but my boobs! Well, that's a whole other story- and not in a good way. As I bfed I had HUGE matronly, engorged boobs for the first 6 months due to over supply (which also meant a v colicky baby until I realised the link) it's only been in the last coue of months still bf and des turns 1 on Monday) that my boobs resemble pre pregnancy. I guess everyone is different but I think some things are down to luck and genes

if they say they dieted or exercised to lose the weight they get slated for not "putting baby first" or not giving there body time to recover. Worse, if they don't lose any extra weight it has a massively negative effect on their career.

My mother always used to say 9 months on nine months off. that used to be the yardstick. much less pressure with that one.

My bloody mother had five kids. I was the last and only section. She looked great after all of us (less so now). Why didn't I get those genes huh?

YABU - I have always had to watch my weight but, being pregnant and breast feeding saw the pounds literally drop off me. I have never been that thin before or since than in the year after giving birth. My mother was the same so it must be genetic (it's all changed now, of course Wink). Given that society prizes thinness above almost everything else, a lot of celebs are that body type (ectomorph is it?) and so it is hardly surprising that they are the body type not to pork out when preg and regain their previous shape quickly.

It's not just genes though (although admittedly it could be in some cases). I lose weight when stressed - always have done.

DS1 was very ill for quite a while and I lost more weight than my pre pregnancy weight. But it as stress induced. I've always lost weight quite easily in that way.

Luckily DC2 was a healthy, bonny thing - but took a bigger toll on my waist band!! Good job DC2 is gorgeous.

I always think that, if someone is very slim and toned before a pregnancy, then she will soon go back to being slim afterwards. Unless she eats literally 24/7 and never moved from a chair, then how can she not? A body that has very little fat, and is used to exercise, isn't going to transform into a flabby blob overnight just because it's making a baby.
I on the other hand sigh and sob hardly put on any weight when I was pregnant, I just sort of transformed flab to baby (and admittedly was very overweight before I got pregnant) and then managed to produce fairly hefty babies (all well over 8 pound, and no3 son was almost 10lb!) and gallons of water, whacking great placentas and al that, and never lost a pound! :(
It wasn't fair Grin
I did once buy myself a pair of jeans 2 sizes bigger than my normal ones, just so I could put them on and squish the post partum jelly belly into them to come home from the hosptal in Grin

I was back down to pre-pregnancy weight within a few weeks. After a year of maternity leave and eating a lot of biscuits I now weigh a few pounds less than I did when I gave birth to DS.

For me, baby weight is one thing - maternity leave weight is quite another.

I agree with Antipag and Catlady, lots of them probably do work at it but keep it quiet. I suppose if your body is your fortune then you'll get back into shape as quick as possible. And Lots of them are / have been models and may be naturally v slim.

I lost all but about 4lb in a couple of weeks with DS1 - I think I weed most of it away Grin - though I didn't put on that much. With DS2 I had 10lb to lose (I get morning sickness of the kind where you have to eat fatty stodgy stuff to stop feeling sick and it has lasted longer with each pregnancy). I tried early on but got nowhere, then read that sleep deprivation makes you crave carbs so decided to wait until the baby slept better. At 9 weeks his sleep improved drastically* so I started watching what I ate and doing loads of walking (I did this before/while pregnant too). I was pretty determined and was back to pre-preg weight quickly after that.

*oh if only it had stayed that way... He's 1 now and wakes all the time.

I was slim and toned before DS1. I've never ever been slim and toned again. I did not/could not lose that weight.

After DS2, with no weight gain, I am a flabby monster, but I weigh the same as my pre-pg weight, as I gained no weight.

So for me, it was the opposite Pom.

The only option for me is a tummy tuck.

I was a size 6 before I had pfb, went 2 weeks over due he was 8lb 5.5oz and as a result of the pregnancy I have seperated muscles. No amount of diet and excerise will solve it and that was the GP exact words.

Well, YABU sort of, because it's not just celebs. My mother put on a massive amount with me, but was a size 10 3 months later. My cousin in utterly skinny after 3 babies over 25 years (one very young, one every late) and hardly has any loose skin in her 40s. They are both lucky.

Unlucky celebs can pull in surgeons, but many people who are celebs are genetically blessed in the first place. For others, well by all accounts Victoria Beckham is every conscious of a loose tum following the last couple of babies & I can't say I've seen her in many bikini snaps. I'm sure there are others who lose the weight, but don't necessarily regain their previous appearance.
