AIBU?

To think that people who are crap at parking should get points on their license.

It really annoys me when some selfish sod can't be arsed to park their car in the lines and takes up two spaces in a free public car park. If people who can't be bothered to park their car properly got points on their license and a fine then prehaps they would make more effort.

Was just telling DH about this thread. We came out if tesco tonight to a car parked down the middle of two spaces beside us. It wasn't at the empty end of the car park either, right up at the busy end.(it was a 4x4 but I don't think you are allowed to mention that on mumsnet)

I love youparklikeacunt and often threaten to send pics in and DH is always mortified I would even consider it.

Should have known better than to expect someone ranting on MN to display any understanding! Jesus. Is life really so black and white? Either people are considerate or they're tossers, there's no in between or any other explanation!

Over and out.

I just wish the people up my road would realise that there's more to parking than switching off your engine, and that leaving a gap wide enough for others to get through is the bare minimum you should strive to achieve. Mind you, considering one of them once dinged an ambulance without so much as leaving a note, nothing surprises me on the bad parking front any more. Perhaps submitting ti this site will offer some catharsis: youparklikeacunt.com

At the moment I would be very much in favour of this!

Some wanker has just scraped my car, which is new (to me, not brand new) and which had just had the scrapes sprayed over by the garage. I am pretty sure I know who did it as there is paint the colour of my car on her car and she parked it behind me, but she claims she didn't do anything. Hmm

It is only a little scratch but it annoys me there seems to be a culture round here of not owning up to little scratches (where I used to live - which was a much poorer area, FWIW - people were very honest and would pop a note under your windscreen even for tiny little scrapes).

I think if your car is huge, you need to park it more carefully - but surely this is something you know when you buy the car? It's not like it expanded when you were driving so it's now a total shock to you to find you can't just point it in the vague direction of a space and expect it all to fit in no matter how slanted you park?

" I wish my instructor had taken me into tescos car park every wetland now as in practice that's what I need to be able to do! "

Why not pay for a driving lesson post test to improve your skills?

saintlyjimjams I think a fee for a temporary badge would be a good idea. If you had to pay say £50 for a temporary badge then it would make you think twice whether you need it. However I would not want the costs raised for long term disablity or those on low income to lose out.

There are a limited number of disabled spaces and they need to be reserved for those with REAL need.

No you don't need to be signed off by anyone when driving post section. Urban myth. I rang mine after my first section (having been told this) and they were incredulous. Not very sensible driving when you're in so much pain you can't heave yourself out of a car without a massive space though!

EasilyBored · 28/01/2013 09:31

Also, don't you need to be signed off by your GP or insurance company before driving after a section?

If you can reverse round a corner, you can park in a bay. It's the same thing, just without a curb to hit.

I don't care if someone takes up two baysin a not too busy car park. But if you park so close to me that I can't get into my car, do not expect me to be to careful with the scratchy bits of my push chair when I try and wrestle it past your car. Tosser.

SPD might be a disability but a large bump is not. Hmm Just park in a P&T spot if you're so unwieldy - no-one will stop you.

Although I suppose temporary blue badges post operation might raise some revenue (we pay for our blue badges which might surprise some - only a fiver, or tenner, it's been a while since our last one so i can't remember, but still a fiver or tenner for a two week blue badge might raise some revenue I guess).

I've had 3 c sections & can't say I ever came close to needing a blue badge. Ok I wasn't about to run a marathon but I was quite capable of walking (and indeed you are encouraged to - don't want a blood clot do we?)

YANBU

So irritating! There are rules... Stuck to them. It's not as bad if its a huge empty car park but when it's busy Angry

Yes to temp disabled badges, that makes a lot of sense but should be used properly.

No to drivers who have just passed your test. You did not fail your test you passed, time you got used to parking. The only way to do it is to practice. Take your time and you'll soon have learned. If you park like an idiot, you'll get used to parking like that instead.

Yes I used to wish for big bays for heavily prgnt women. Yes I could have park miles away easily but I couldnt walk far as was too big and would need a wee almost instantly:)

I usually see families with teens in m&b spaces which makes me cross. Then I have to park in a normal space, wrestling baby/ toddler out of the car and in when people park too close. If I was prgnt as well I think I would possibly cry.

lady and alittle I'm in south London and its not covered here, just reverse parking, turn in the road and reversing round a corner. I wish my instructor had taken me into tescos car park every wetland now as in practice that's what I need to be able to do! Plus I need to park well enough to get my son out of his car seat. I just feel sensitive when I see posts like this - bit everyone is crap or insensitive. They might just be new to it.

"being pregnant is not a disability. "

Completely agree. However some pregnancy complications are a disablity. If a pregnant woman needs a wheelchair because of severe SPD then she is temporarily disabled. I am sure there are some other very rare and nasty conditions that I know nothing about.

I don't think that having a large bump is a reason for a disablity badge. Disablity badges should not be given out like smarties.

Reverse parking in bays was part of the test when I did it, but not running forwards into them. I wasn't very good at it the first few times, I'd never had to do it before!

It depends though, if the person on one side of you has parked poorly it can be difficult to be as central and straight as you'd like.

Being pregnant is not a disability no, but not being able to get into or out of your car because of your bump might as well be. Having a temporary disability permit for ladies who are in this position is surely a good thing? Or maybe they should just stay at home?

Penelope parking in bays is part of the test! (Just passed mine too). Maybe it's a regional thing though. But I agree it's hugely stressful when you've just passed and can only get better through practice. Especially when other people are judging you.

I drive a massive WAV
if dd is not with me I have to use a "normal" space. if someone parks to close to my side door I cannot put my shopping in WAV.
so I park so they can't

One of the best things about the US is valet parking- until it becomes comminplace here, I shall continue to park across 2 spaces in a far flung bit if the car park. I have a 4x4 and like lots of room !

I have a huge 7 seater (four DC) and do not park in P&C spaces, I chose to park in a space away from the store where I can reverse into or drive into I.e. I don't need to reverse back out of.

What I hate is when I do this and come bak and some idiot has raked right next to me leaving me about 6 inches at one side despite there being other spaces.

Why the Biscuit @ temp disabled badges? In the US (Florida at least) you can get one if you have had surgery or are heavily pregnant or whatever for a few weeks, and then they expire.

I think it's a fantastic idea.

Yeah the first thing I thought was that people might have been forced to park that way by whoever was there before them... But for another perspective, can you understand that some people are new and inexperienced drivers? I've just passed my test very recently. I can reverse park because that's part of the test but I dread parking in bays at the supermarket and am utterly crap at it. Several times I've ended up over two spaces through lack of ability to do any better, though I hasten to add I have always corrected it. I think this should be part of driving tests tbh. I feel for the people who have to wait for me to park up but I just cannot do it with any flair yet, I wish I could as its embarrassing. I don't think I deserve points on my license though.
